Chat Icon I don't know...My first instinct says that you are his step-mother and you should want to be a second mother to the kid. Just my opinion.Chat Icon

Re: blended family situation

I understand where you are coming from. Once you have a baby, no time off is ever the same.

If its always been 1 month, why does your DH want to make it 2 this summer? I would ask your DH this question. Maybe he is concerned that his son will feel neglected when the new baby comes and he wants to give him some extra attention. if that is the case, I think its a pretty good reason. Just talk ot your DH and find out why he wants to change things now.

I think you can compromise in a few ways:

1. Make it 6 weeks with the son and/or
2. Maybe he can take some time off work so he can spend more time with his son- so when he is with you, it doesn't all rest on your shoulders.

Re: blended family situation

Maybe your husband wants to spend more time with him this summer before the new baby arrives. Doesn't sound unreasonable to me at all.

It doesn't sound like you really want to be a step mother to this child. What if (god forbid) something happened to the mother and you had him living them 365 days a year?

Step families are a sore subject for me because my stepmom was and still is a WITCH with a B. She was jealous that I spent time with my dad on weekends, etc and made it known. Thank goodness my dad finally smartened up 25 years later and has decided to divorce her.
