Blinds or Curtains.

As I am sitting here, on the laptop in our den, I am being blinded by the sun.
We are in desperate need of blinds or curtains even.

Please show me your bay windows with Blinds or Curtains.
If you don't mind, please tell me where you got them.

Thank You so much.Chat Icon

ETA: This pic was taken when we 1st moved in, but, its a good pic of the window.Chat Icon

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

I don't have a bay window, just a long 9-foot window in my living room. We put up 2" white wood blinds and then a topper. The stuff we have up now is cheap, from Target. Once our living room is no longer our playroom Chat Icon we will invest in nice drapes. I like the blinds because we can open or close them and put them up or down.

I have a bow window like yours and we did curtains. (These are the shorter version of what I have - I exchanged them after I saw the length issue):

I did something similar. Tie up shades on a curtain rod over the window and sheers on tension rods in each of the actual windows. Our bay window is an older one that uses srtings and counterweights to acutally operate the window opening and closing, so we can't mount blinds inside the window itself.

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

I have the same issue. There really isn't enough room for inside mounting. Plus, having custom blinds for each section would be a lot more $$$ and a bigger PITA to pull each up and even them out every morning.

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

This pic is from the previous owners. They left the Hunter Douglas blinds - thank god ($$$).

Right now we just have the blinds up. I may do a something similar to what they did or something like Jessee's. It's been 4 months and i havent done anything about it yet!!!

I know for the dining room I am most likely going to get custom window treatments from The Fabric Mill, and I may have them do the LR window too.

My problem is that I don't know what style I want and if I am spending a considerable amount on them, I want to make sure I am going to like them for a LONG time. Ok sorry for rambling...

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

Thanks - I actually ending up getting them at Linens N Things. I searched everywhere for something and that's where I finally found them unexpectedly. There may have been a scarf valance option - I know quite of few of what they had did have that option.

ETS: I recently saw something similar in Fortunoffs.

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

I have a huge bay window that is on my front porch, so we need privacy if anyone comes up to the door to ring the bell ,etc. So I put up Hunter Douglas honeycomb blinds that go top down bottom up on each window pane, then put pinch pleat white sheers from JCPenney on rings that can be pulled open or closed. This way, I can put the blinds up or leave the tops open, leave the sheer curtains open or closed in addition. We have the most options for privacy and light filtration this way.

For us, we wanted the privacy of the blinds, for nighttime. We pull the blinds down at night but leave them open during the day. The sheers provide enough privacy for daytime.

It is hard to tell in the pics, but you can see the blinds down about 1/4 of the way.

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

thin curtains.... slighly thicker than sheers, is my vote

It lets a lot of light in while giving you privacy

great window treatments everyone has.
I have the exact window you have, this pic is terrible but you can see my sheers & valance. I'm getting ready to switch the sheers back to the thermal drapes for winter. We don't have any privacy issues with this window, just light.

Even though Hunter Douglas blinds are a little pricey, they are definitely worth it. And you can get them to be installed to provide just the right amount of privacy that you'd need yet filled your room with sunlight that it's not bothersome. I don't have that type of windows but my home has the Hunter Douglas Blinds and they are a bit different throughout the home and yet each room has the amount of privacy needed. I'd look into it. They are definitely a worthy investment.

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

My bay window is only sheers & curtains. We didn't want to get involved with blinds. It has worked nicely for 2 years

Re: Blinds or Curtains.

What is the width of all the windows together? And is that your living room?
What type of curtains do you want to do? Do you want to see out all day? Draw the curtains back in the day nad close them at night?

You can also just do a nice valance with honeycomb blinds or you can do panels, but if you do panels, what length do you want (floor, sill?)? Depends how formal you want to go.

For me, my window is almost 10 feet long all together. I did panels that are on rings that i pull back, only two sheer panels (one on each side when pulled back). The panels were very wide widths from JCP. I could find them for you if you are interested on the JCP website.
