Block party

Having a block party and a cake for my son's first birthday. What kind of food would you get catered? About 30 adults 10 kids. Any tips/suggestions?

Never had a block party! I would like to buy everything for the day and BBQ in the evening! I was thinking heroes and hot food around 3:00 then BBQ around 8:00 if people are still here. What do you put out for your guests for block parties:

appetizers
meal
dessert
drinks

Anything else?

I would figure guests would be here from like 1-9pm.

How many people are you having?

I had a party of about 100 people at my house last year, and I cannot imagine trying to make and distribute food for that number of people (while still enjoying myself).

I did make a couple of things in Crock-Pots because that was easier. If you're having a large crowd, maybe do something like macaroni and cheese or pulled pork in a Crock-Pot and have the rest catered.

I was going to do heros with side salads and maybe a couple pizzas for the kids around 3ish then BBQ around 8 for whoever is still here. Should I get other hot food too?

I would put out more food with the heros for 40 ppl. Bbq at 3 and then just put out the food again at 8 if people are still hungry.

I'm confused by there block party/ birthday combo. I'd it just a birthday party or are you celebrating his birthday at the neighborhood block party?

It's our block party but my son turns 1 two days later so instead of having 2 parties with the same people in a week, I'm renting a tent/tables/chairs etc. and having a birthday cake for him as well.

So your neighbors are also having food and guests? If so, I'd just be prepared with enough for neighbors who come by possibly even with their guests.

I would do simple apps like veggie trays, chips and salsa, pretzels or goldfish for the kids.

Dinner I would do heroes, salads, and maybe 2 or 3 hot dishes (a pasta dish, a chicken dish, maybe sausage and peppers). Add chicken fingers for the kids.

For dessert cake and/ or cupcakes, fruit, and maybe a tray of cookies.

Do you think guests will bring food? Most people would for a typical block party but wouldn't for a birthday party so I'm not sure what I'd expect.
