BM dress alterations

OMG, they are going to cost me more than the dress did itself. I need the dress taken in on the sides and a hem. $130 Chat Icon Is that insane? Plus the rush fee - which I am fine with because I knew that going in I would have to pay a rush fee as I gave birth last week and had no choice to get the dress altered this week for the wedding next week.

This is the dress

The dress, strapless bra, shoes and alterations cost me $325. Is that normal?

Re: BM dress alterations

where are you getting it done? Most places have a cap on alterations if you bought the dress with them, and that is usually around $65.

I had to get a dressed altered at an outside bridal shop once for an out of town wedding and that only cost me $80. $130 is crazy!

Re: BM dress alterations

At David's Bridal. They did not say there was a cap. They just had a fee schedule. Since I just had a c/s last week and am dependent on others driving me this week, I feel like I am over a barrel so to speak.

Ok so I called DB and there is no cap. They don't do a pinking sheer cut of the crinoline and lining so it is what it is... oh well. Man this wedding is going to cost me an arm and a leg.

Re: BM dress alterations

I think 325 for the entire package is pretty normal. I just got married in May and the BM dresses were 200 alone so add in the alterations shoes and stuff they probably paid more than that.

Re: BM dress alterations

the last two weddings I was in, I took my dress to the dry cleaners and had them alter it. It worked out cheaper than if I got it done at the bridal salon.

Re: BM dress alterations

can you take the dress to a tailor/cleaners?

I am a BM and we got our dresses at Bridal Suite in Bayshore - the alterations are capped at $70 (thank goodness, bc just a hem and taking the dress in was over the capChat Icon )

Re: BM dress alterations

i think the rush fee is BS... i am pregnant and in a wedding in 2 weeks, not sure how big I will be... i called the bridal place around the corner from my house, and they told me to come in a week before the wedding and they could have it done no problem... no extra rush fee... IMO I would take the dress elsewhere to get altered...
