boating and babies

How old were your DC when you first brought them on the boat? My DH want to bring DD on the boat, but he has the habit of liking to jump huge waves and tossing his passengers around. I'd be nervous to have DD on the boat when that happens. What do you guys think?

Re: boating and babies

DD was only a couple of weeks old.

No offense - but I would tell your DH that he has to grow up and not jump the waves anymore. My DH had to grow up when DD came along Chat Icon Cause he loved doing that too Chat Icon

We started last summer when DD was about 4 few months old. DH is a cautious and courteous boater. Plus he knows better not to mess around with his wife and daughter on the boat. We got her a life jacket and I hold her the whole time. Enjoy! Maybe we'll see you on the water this weekend Chat Icon

I agree, if my Dh did that with DC in the boat, DH would be going overboard....Chat Icon

I don't have a boat, but I would assume that if MY DH liked doing that with his friends, he would do it ONLY with his friends. If he did it with my child on board, oh boy would he get it! Chat Icon

Re: boating and babies

My husband has had a boat (note I said he has a boat) for 20 plus years. My 4 year old has never been on but probably will go this summer. It's not that I don't trust my husband because I completely do. He is Mr. Safety and does everything by the book. Although I think its easy to have a baby on board, I think a toddler is a completely different story. So as long as there is another adult along I say bring the baby because it will, imo, be much harder to do next summer.

ETA My husband, who is more of a fisherman, than boater per se, has never really wanted them on before 4 or so.

Re: boating and babies

we are going to take the boys out next summer. I want them walking before we go out, plus his boat is out in Montauk, so that is a trip for them.
