body odor

Lately I have noticed my 6 year old DD has pretty bad body odor. She does sweat a lot, but it is pretty rank! Is this something to call the dr. about? Should I start putting deodorant on her? Anyone else go through this?

I don't notice a smell from my 6 yr old son yet, but he is always sweaty and dirty.:ace:

I wonder if it could be that girls mature faster than boys in every way.

My co-worker's daughter had that issue. I haven't noticed anything with my 6 year old.

Her daughter "matured" pretty quickly so it could be a hormonal thing. I would mention it at the next visit.

I wouldn't want to make her paranoid though - so I'd use big words to describe it

I've noticed it with my DS, who is also 6. Granted he is in a summer recreation program/camp and is outside all day playing and getting sweaty. I just make sure he showers every night and I've been using Gold Bond powder too.

The worst was today on the way home from camp. He told me his foot had a blister and was hurting him. I said he could take off his shoes until we got home. I nearly died from the smell. I had to roll down the windows and blast the air. It was the most horrible smell. They are breathable shoes too (Lands End trekkers). Good thing I can toss them in the washing machine.

My DD turned 7 this summer and I also noticed a very strong BO just recently. I was concerned, called the doctor (after reading on the internet way too much) and he said as long as she is not showing other signs of puberty not to be concerned. He suggested deoderant like Teen Spirit, but I think she's too young. So far what has solved it has been daily showers with a loofah and a good body wash (not baby wash that she was using for so long ) I just go in and check on her and make sure she scrubs. But sure enough by the end of the next day she does have the odor again.

just wanted to pass this along. If you don't want your child to use deordorant try this. My friends dr. told her to do this. Buy an antibacterial bar soap and use a wash cloth to wash under arms. This really should be in conjunction with deordorant, but see if it helps
