Bone Marrow Registry

If you get swabbed and put on the bone marrow registry, please remove yourself if you do not intend to give to a stranger. Being on the registry means that if a match comes up, you will be called upon to possibly save someone's life. Too many people join for loved ones and do not take their names off. When the time comes that they are called for a stranger a surprising number decline to give. This wastes valuable time on behalf of the registry and for the sick person who may not have that time to waste. I know a woman who's young adult daughter died after three matches were found for her but all declined to give to a stranger.

This is an excellent point.

I know when I recently decided to join the registry (prompted because of a child that my cousin knows who needs a transplant) I said that I would not join unless I was willing to give to anyone. I only hope that I am able to help someone.

I feel horrible for people who find out they have a match and then there dreams are taking away when the match declines..I agree please dont sign up unless your 100 percent sure you will dontate if your called.
