book recommendations for bedtime routine

What books do you read to your infant?

DS is just about 7 months now & I only have about 3 books to read to him.
I have to be honest that we do not have a bed time routine established.Chat Icon But I really want to start one. Its not too late is it?

I went back to work AND school when DS was 8 weeks old (I only had 3 more class left to finished my MBA) plus my DH works 2 jobs so every night was different depending which one of us was home to put him to sleep.

Now that I am completely done with school (FINALLY Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon) I will be home every night with DS so I want to start a bedtime routine with a bath, a book (or two) & a bottle. We already know his signs of when he is tired & he has no problem putting himself to sleep if we put him in his cribs & give him his lovey. But every night he goes to bed at a different time between 9 - 11pm.

Any book recommendations or other bedtime routine recommendations would be great! TIA!!!!

I do Harold and the Purple Crayon, and then Goodnight Moon if she makes it that long.

Re: book recommendations for bedtime routine

We read 3-4 books, first one or two that DD chooses and then end with one or two from this list. To us these are geared toward bedtime.

Good Night Moon
The Going to Bed Book
Guess How Much I Love You
Snuggle Up Sleepy Ones
Time for Bed Elmo

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE all of Sandra Boynton's books. We have quite a few and I know them all by heart. They are such fun to read and Maddie LOVES them too. Eliza is just starting to enjoy it when I read them too.

My favorites are:

The Bellybutton Book
Snuggle Puppy
Pajama Time
Hippos Go Berserk

Re: book recommendations for bedtime routine

another good one is "brown bear, brown bear, what do you hear?" or pretty much any eric carle book.DD also loved at that age, and still does, any lift the flap book. You never know which books your DC will like! It's great to just have a wide variety to choose from, you'll see after a while which ones your child prefers :)

Never too late for a bedtime routine.

One thing I do with my kids, who have trouble going down when it's light out is I turn every light off in the house & draw the blinds/curtains. I read how light affects sleep patterns so I started trying it. It definitely helps just as opening blinds & curtains, letting natural light in the room before waking them up helps too.

We used to read Good Night Moon & How Does a Dinosaur Say Good Night - read in a steady, calm voice.

Re: book recommendations for bedtime routine

I take books out of the library that seem to have bright, colorful pictures. We read a different book each night.
