Booster Seats- LONG- sorry but I am so confused
So Ryan is outgrowing his convertible car seat and is just a bit too small to go into a belt positioning booster.
I saw the video this week about that poor child who was killed so I really want one with a 5 point harness.
Here is my dilemna. Aside from it being 3x the cost, it is HUGE (would take up my entire back seat) and my car is not Latch equipped so it would have to lock in with the seatbelt anyway. And the salesperson at BBB said even if I had LATCH it is not supposed to be used for more than 48 pounds.
And then the salesperson was telling me they had sold more in the past week than in the past 2 years which makes my skeptical side go hmmm???
So if I decide to get the regular booster that converts from 5 point to a belt positioning booster. The regular belt positioning only seats seem much safer (thicker padding and things on each side of the head).
I am so conflicted? Anyone else in my shoes? Anyone want to give me advice on booster seats. DS is 40 inches and 36 pounds, he'll be 4 in January.

I checked out the Regent carseat too but about a month ago,(before the video) and yes it is HUGE!!! I bought a Britax Marathon that goes up to 65 lbs. My son loves it and I feel better because he has the 5 point harness.

Hi, That video has me very upset too...I have been shopping around. babies r us has the Apex seat. My friend just got it. It is a 5 point harness up to 60 or 80 lbs. It costs $130. They are all sold out, but there are a ton of sites online that you can order from. Albee baby had free shipping. Good Luck

There are a bunch of other 5 point boosters out there, not just the Britax. Evenflo has one, Cosco, Eddie Bauer, some at a fraction of the cost of a Regent and some that look quite a bit smaller. If I can find a link, I'll edit my post with a link
ETA: Hmmmnnn...now Im confused, some so called 5 point boosters actually dont let you use the 5 pt harness when your child is bigger.

thats right, they are only 5 point up to 40 pounds then you have to use it as belt position. Since DS is just a few pounds shy I would be going there soon. And the belt position only ones look MUCH sturdier than the ones that convert to belt position.
FYI- some of the ones on the BRU website say 5 point up to 100 pounds. It is very misleading, yes the seat is good to 100 pounds, but the 5 point stops at 40 pounds.

Re: Booster Seats- LONG- sorry but I am so confused
I could have written that myself. It's the seatbelt malfunction, not the booster seat!!! I have 2 Britax Marathons I will use with the latch until they are 48 lbs (my SUVs latch max weight). At that point, I will continue to use my Marathon until they reach the 65 lbs weight limit. I will just be installing it using the seat belts and not latch. I won't be buying another car seat for my oldest until he's at least 4.

And what will he be riding in? (Emma is almost 4 1/2. She still fits in her marathon, heck she is 36lbs!!!)

What do you mean? I have no idea yet! When he reaches age 4, I guess I move him to a booster seat, no?

I believe my post that one day somewhat covered this...I cannot remember though.
If she still fits in the 5 pt harnass (under the weight and seated height for the max limits) I'd use the 5pt covertible booster seat like the one I have. A Cosco highback. I can then use the seatbelt once she outgrows that.
