Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
And WHY?
I originally planned on using Ventaire and then have been hearing many more raves about the Avent and am curious what the consenus is among those who use THESE bottles.
I wont use Dr. Browns b/c I dont own a dishwasher, too hard to clean my hand.
TIA!

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
The Dr Browns arent' that bad to clean. I never put them in the dishwasher until a month ago...so for 1 year I was hand washing them. It was worth it for me because I saw how much better Hayley was on them (when I first switched from the regular Playtex drop in kind) and it made it all worth it.
ETS: I tried Avent before going to Dr Browns and she wouldn't drink from them

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
I actually registered for both, but never used the Playtex. I tried, but Katherine hated it after using the Avent. Then again, my niece used the Playtex, but wouldn't drink (initially) from the Avent--so I guess it's your best bed to register for 2 sets in case he/she prefers one over the other.
Katherine did great with the Avent. I don't have anything bad to say about them except they do leak sometimes which is annoying.

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
I use both now but only because I got a couple of Ventaire bottles for free from Destination Maternity. I have used the Avents since I stopped bfing and haven't had any problems with them. From the research I did, Avents are the only bottles that have been shown to reduce colic but Molly was never colicy so I don't know if that is true.
I like the ventaires as well. The only disavantage I find is having to unscrew the bottom and clean those pieces. Just one more step that I would rather avoid.

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
I remember reading (maybe here? or babycenter.com or thenest.com that many moms said the Avent bottles leaked for them. So we registered for Playtex Ventaire. The only thing with them is the extra parts you have to wash. It's just the bottom that comes off and a plastic round thing which fits inside of it, easy to wash by hand but just time consuming. Plus you have to make sure you put them in right so they don't leak. I've had a few leak on me.
Then I asked around more and most of my friends used Avent and never had a problem. If I had to do it over I'd buy Avent.

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
Honestly, you won't know which is better until you have the baby. I had planned on using Avent bottles and everyone told me to hold off, but I didn't listen. Well, she choked on the flow of the Avents, hated the Dr. Brown's and we settled on the Ventaires. THEN, those started giving us problems because if you didn't tighten the top exaclty enough, but not too much, then the formula wouldn't even come out. So....we switched to the Playtex Drop-ins. NOW, we're back to the Ventaire's because they're more portable and the stage 2s have no flow problems. Moral of my drawn out story, buy one of a few different types, or see if you can get samples, and take it from there. I'm actually a fan of only using one or two bottles. One that's clean, and one that's being used. There's nothing worse than sink full of dirty bottles

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
First tried the Avent and they are the most finicky bottles...meaning they would leak if they were too tight, leak if they were too loose and everythng in between, plus Kerri wasn't drinking well from them.
So my girlfriend raved about Ventaire and I switched to those...no problems....so easy to clean and I never had a leak.
Best bet is register for the newborn starter set for both and see which one works for your DC.

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
We used the avent and true, they LEAKED! I loved them but boy did they leak... too tight, too loose.
I used the dr browns when she started cereal in a bottle (only used teh for a few weeks) and hated them more than the avent.
I guess this wasn't as helpful as I wanted it to be LOL!

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
We tried Avent and didn't like them. The flow was too much (for the stage 1) and they leaked all the time. We used Playtex Ventaire with no problems.

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
Well we have used, and still use, everything. Dr. Browns, Ventaire, Drop-ins, and Avent. I kept trying different ones to see if they reduced his gas and reflux but I haven't noticed any difference with any specific type. I didn't have leakage problems with Avent and I find them the easiest to clean.

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
I use Avent. DD drinks from them very well. yes, they do leak if you don't shut them just right- i think it took me about 2 1/2 months to get the magic tough- dH still has problems... ha ha.
I agree w/ other posters- register for 2 different starter sets b/c you never know what DC is going to like. I got Avent and dr. Browns and never had to open the Doc Browns as DD took to the Avents straight away.

I use Avent with Matthew....love them, but you have to screw them on just right otherwise they will leak. They are very easy to clean

Re: Bottles-Avent or Playtex Ventaire
we used both and honestly, dd gets less gas abnd air from the ventaire, plus she "holds" them easier....the ventaire do have more pieces too though...I would try both and then decide if I was you!
