Bought a Dining Room Set!!! What do you think??
We bought a dining room set tonight for our new home!
I priced a few different places that sells this set - wholesale people and such - and I was able to get Raymour & Flanigan to match the cheapest price I got. The negotiations went back and fourth a lot but we settled on a price we were thrilled with!!
The set retails for $3,700 together. That is what was on the sign at the store ($3,400 for the hutch/china cabinet and the table with two arm chairs, four side chairs, and two leaves -- the table with chairs is $1699 and the hutch/china cabinet is $1699) Then, the additional money up to $3,700 was for a platinum 5 year protection plan with a special order protective pad for the top. OK, fine - too much $.
I talked the guy down, told him my price comps that I got at other places. We went back and fourth. Settled on $3,400 for everything. No good. Went back and fourth, went down to $3150. I told him I wanted $2,700 lol.
He came back at $2,900 and we settled on $2,850.  So, it was like just about $1,000 off!
DH was like geez Danielle let up a little on the guy

Tell me what you think!! The pad is really nice for it - to protect it. We are in love with the hutch and I like the french-country look to it!

Can I ask - how did you find other stores that sell the same stuff as Raymour? I'd like to do some bargaining myself but I don't know where to find the "comps."

Well, I only found a few that could order it. The first (Stanley's) orders it and then there is a wholesale dude in the Flea Market (A wonderful fellow LIFer told me about it) that can order it as well. Hell, it only takes one comp!
Other than that, I only found one place on Route 110 that carries the Heritage set I ordered which is *I think* a Drexel piece but I'm not sure. Don't get me wrong, I made it like I had a "ton" of comps and people that would beat their price.
I definitely over-exaggerated how great lol but the reality is, even if I ordered from Stanley's or the Flea Market they don't have the same kind of Customer Guarantee and Service that R&F does. So, I did the best I could with getting the price down and figured even if it was a little more it was worth it to have it be from a Corporation that would guarantee their stuff.
I didn't really refer to that THAT closely - I wasn't like, I'll show you proof or anything. I just casually mentioned that there are other places I knew of where I could order the pieces and they would beat their price. That had him shaking in his shoes and then we just went down, down, down. He didn't question it whatsoever - he knows that people who are savvy can get their stuff elsewhere cheaper. My Mom used to order direct from NC.
EVERYTHING in life is negotiable! 
ETA: When I went to buy my Nissan I told him that Atlantic Nissan said they would give me the car I wanted for $299 a month and he bought it, matched it. I never even went to Atlantic Nissan pfffft

Thanks! Well, we close at the end of March.
I asked them to hold off on setting a delivery date until we are in the new place. That way, it'll come once we are there and we don't have to pay movers to move it for us (from where we are now to there).
So, when we are about to close I'll call and schedule it -- the nice thing about them is that they guarantee three day delivery or less. No worries!

You know what just dawned on me. You could say you spoke with another salesperson at another R&F location. Believe me, they are like sharks in the water these people - about their sales and competition. It is just like car dealerships - that salesman wants you to buy it from him over Great Neck's location and/or Sandy Saleswoman, KWIM??
It never occured to me to pit them against each other! Lightbulb moment!

Oh and they will. My bedroom and one our couches is from there. They are great and fast !!! We ordered our furniture after we closed but our room was not ready yet. They held it until we were ready. =)They rock.
Good luck w it. It's a gorgeous set. Now maybe you will be concerned like I was about table linens or no table linens on my other post lol.

We bought the same table and chairs from Raymour. We didn't get the hutch though, no room.
