Boy, 12, Dies After Being Thrown From Bull at Rodeo

LONGMONT, Colo. — Boulder County sheriff's officials say a 12-year-old boy competing in a bull-riding event has died after being thrown and then stepped on by a bull.

Authorities say the boy was competing in the Little Britches Rodeo for youth at the Boulder County Fairgrounds when he was injured Sunday.

Sheriff's officials say the boy died at a hospital in Longmont. His name wasn't immediately released.

Sheriff's Sgt. Mike Dimond says there is an inherent risk in bull riding, and the boy's death appears to be a tragic accident.

Maybe it's because my kids aren't there yet but I can't picture letting my 12 year old on a bull. Such a tragedy

Not my thing AT all - this is very sad. I'm sure there are a lot of young kids who do this, though, in certain areas.... Not MY kid, thats for sure!

I can't imagine letting my 30 year old ride a bull if I had any say at all!

But.. I guess it may be a cultural thing where they live? Maybe it's a junior rodeo and all the popular 12 year olds do it?

Regardless... Bulls + My children .. not going to happen while I have anything to say about it.

I have to remember to pray for his parents who are probably in the depths of some horrific grief right now.

However, it's the culture out there. In the US, how many thousands of DC die in car accidents every year, but we still use them. I wonder if the Amish think *we're* barbaric for allowing our DC to ride in cars... It's a matter of culture, calculated risk, accepted "norms", etc.
