Re: breakfast ideas for gestational diabetes??

I've only eaten eggs for breakfast for the past 3 months! Yuck! I am not an egg eater at all, but I feel fine when eating them and don''t have to worry aqbout my sugar spiking. If you really can't stomach them, maybe you can try peanut butter on whole grain or whole wheat bread? You'll probably have to stay away from cereal (unless you have some protein with it) and fruit first thing in the morning, so unfortunately, the choices are limited. Everybody is different though...you can try a couple of different things and see how your levels are. Just make sure you have enough protein!

Re: breakfast ideas for gestational diabetes??

I was going to suggest oatmeal...

My breakfasts with DD usually consisted of either eggs, or oatmeal.

Those were the only things I found that would:

1. not affect my blood sugar
2. hold me over until my mid-morning snack or lunch

When I had GD with my first pregnancy I could eat a 1/2 a bagel with peanut butter and my sugar levels were fine.

Re: breakfast ideas for gestational diabetes??

I used to have a whole grain english muffin with peanut butter and then a yogurt an hour or 2 later and that would be good for me.

What about strained yogurt (greek yogurt) It has a lot less carbs then regular yogurt.

Re: breakfast ideas for gestational diabetes??

Turkey sausage, greek yogurt, pb on whole wheat, glucerna or special k low carb cereals. Or turkey/cheese roll-ups (heated up of course). You can also try some protein shakes. They are best make in a blender with ice and some strawberries. My friend who despises eggs has GD and swears by Designer Whey brand chocolate proten powder shakes made with skim milk, ice and strawberries. Hey, whatever floats your boat.

ETA..nuts! Also, look at diabetes recommendations or south beach. There are different types of flour you can use and make low caeb, high protein muffins to eat.

Designer Whey brand. She said its not lumpy and gross like some and it mixes up smooth.

A girl I used to work with had GD, she would eat peanut butter on toast. The best is peanut butter on toasted 12-grain bread!!! Every now and again, she would add sliced bananas to it.

Some people can't tolerate any sort of carbs. When I was pregnant with DD I had GD and even 1 slice of whole wheat bread or even a 1/2 whole wheat english muffin sent my blood sugar soaring.

For yogurt, I ate the weight watchers yogurt. My OB said it was a good alternative even though it has splenda in it, to regular yogurt.
