Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I did not like it at all. Everything just seemed off to me.

I hated the baby, especially the name, and thought she took the focus off the romance and relationship between Bella and Edward which has always been the main draw of the books for me. I felt there was no romance at all after the honeymoon, and even that was badly written. Bella begging Edward for sex was just ridiculous.

The ending was so anticlimactic with the Volturi just leaving without a fight.

And since when is Jasper called Jazz??

I am glad it had a happy ending, but I didn't llike everything that happened to get them there. It's a big dissapointment for me.

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I totally do not get the whole Jazz thing either. I rushed through the book because I wanted to see what happens. So now I am going to re-read it to see if it maybe is better than the 1st time. I too agree that Bella begging for sex was wrong and it lost its romance once Nessie (dumb name) was born. Plus Alice just takes off and reappears with a 1 page explaination at the end.....I feel like it was all very rushed.

Though I do have to admit that all though I will always be team Edward....I did like the Jacob chapters. Chat Icon

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Ok so it did get better at the end... but she spent waaayyyyyy too much time with the whole tortured-pregnant-bella thing.

And i think it was a cop-out how she had bella skip the new vampire stage.

Not up to par with the others at ALL...but the end left me happier than my annoyance flipping through the pregnant bella chapters.

Also.. I did NOT appreciate her leaving out the human/vampire s*x details!!! I wanted to hear her describe it like she described their first kisses in Twilight!

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I just finished last night. I have stayed away because I did not want to be tempted to see the discussion.

I DID like it, however not as much as the others because of the lack of intimacy between Bella and Edward.

My first thoughts are the book was extremely predictable. I thought that everything I would have thought to happen in the sequel did. I had a feeling Bella would skip the newborn phase. I had a feeling they would have a child. I had a feeling that Sue and Charlie would one day get together. I had a feeling that the situation with Charlie would be be him accepting Bella's choice.

As soon as I was able to predict Bella was pregnant I kind of literally threw the book down and got ****** because I knew it was going to "ruin" the story.

I do think Stephenie Meyers went about this very creatively, but I feel like she brought it down a notch to appeal to a younger crowd. I think it was lacking the realism of the other stories that drew in the older crowd.

I liked the role that Jacob played in this book, however the imprinting (which I was also able to predict) was stupid and annoying.

I feel like the book lacked the intensity and suspense of the other books.

I am glad things worked out in the end. I am glad that Bella and Edward live happily ever after with their beautiful daughter, I just wish it would have been a bit more climactic and suspenseful getting to that point.

I feel like I kind of rushed through it because I was so eager to see how things panned out, so now I am going to go back and finish reading the entire series for a second time and see how I feel after that.

I still love the Twilight saga as a whole and consider them to be my favorite books ever. But just like any series, there are weaker parts to the whole and Breaking Dawn was it.

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I actually liked the book.

No it did not have the passion from Twilight of Bella and Edward falling in love ( which in reality is the part we all love the best no?)

But the whole story with Nessie seemed very much to me like a true husband and wife who are having a baby- husband worried about wife, wife wanting to protect the baby, not as much romance but definitely a deeper level of love.

I like how they skipped the newborn phase for Bella- It finally explained why she was impervious to the special gifts of all the other vampires by having a shield power.

Especially because she is only going to grow to be like 7 years old?!?! Do you think he then would just be her "protector" instead of a "lover" Chat Icon

After reading that Meyer is a Mormon (and not that there is anything wrong with being a Mormon) but I really wasnt expecting any kind of heavy descriptions of them doing the nasty (which you know you ALL wanted! Chat Icon)

I definitely felt like she wrapped this one up a little too neat and that maybe it didnt really live up to the hype -- which there was PLENTY of.

I wasnt surprised that she would have Bella jump past the newborn phase and was satisfied the way she explained it away -- that Bella was well prepared for the experience, etc etc. I was a little annoyed at the plot device she used to explain how Charlie was going to stay in her life (and agree with the PP) -- again, it felt a little too neat.

No it wasnt that she was only going to be 7, but that it took the other half immortal 7 years to become an adult and he stopped there...so she will do the same. Be a full grown adult in 7 years

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Well I loved it. I was so scared based on the descriptions. I thought it was GREAT.

Yes, I was a little disspointed, the sex scences were not there, BUT Keep in Mind this whole series is marketed at YA ( young adult) and anything more would have had critics shunning her and that demographic...so I expected it....And was glad for the little details we got.

I liked the PG and Nessie part. Maybe cause Im a fairly new mom? And the Jacob part didnt bother me ( although totally predictable, as was the ending, but Im gald) If it had ended on a bad note, I may have been pisssed ya know?

I Liked that bella skipped the Newborn stage as I was cringing she would not be "Bella" when she was a vampire.

I was a wee bit dissapointed in the end with the Volturi but glad no one died ( no cullens or friends anyway) but a bit more of the action could have added to the book for sure.

All in all though. GREAT SERIES. Twillight is still my fav but this one was my second fav of the 4.

Chat Icon That would be really gross if 7 foot tall jacob was with a 7 year old! They do explain that with her rapid age growth though in reality she will only have been around for 7 years, she will be an adult.

I read the book a second time and have to say liked it much better! I still like twilight the best Chat Icon

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Just finished it tonight. Very predictable (the pregnancy, the imprinting, the house, etc.).

Also how could the family think that Alice would abandon them? Alice who was willing to die for Edward in Eclipse wouldn't return? Ridiculous. Get Jasper safe & she'd return.

I liked the introduction of the other vampires, their gifts, etc. Loved that Bella saved the day & the Jane staredown. I was convinced that Aro's wedding gift necklace was some kind of decoy. I was glad I was wrong about it.

I wanted more romance. I loved the mothering part (also a mom here) & that Bella had so much control to skip the newborn stage.

One question...not sure if I blew past it but what was Edward's birthday gift to Bella? The house was from everyone. What did he give her?

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

ok i finally finished the book(i was away last week and didnt get to readChat Icon ). I did not like this book AT ALL!!! very very dissapointing. In eclipse we had this romantic love triangle going between bella, ed and jake. and in Breaking Dawn the romance between bella and ed wasnt even there. And charlie wasnt even shocked to see his daughter look completly different!! He asks not one question. And hes a police officer, and still not even one question he asks. weird. and jake with renesme. not good. a bad move. no fight at the end. I dont even know what else to write. There was not one good part in this whole book in my opinion. I only got excited when jake showed up to the wedding reception and thats where it ended for me. What a bummer.

No, she said that alice gave her the keys to the hosue as her gift and edward gave her teh keys to the "after" car. and then she mentioned much later in the book that the gift had been the car.

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I thought it was just "eh."

After twilight- I expected the whole series to be better-I flew through twilight in a day and after that the others all seemed to drag a bit.

Eclipse-I think- was the 2nd best because of the love triangle-I was definitely on Team Jacob.

I guess I'm glad it was a happy ending- but I did feel like she made the sequels longer than they had to be.

Re: Breaking Dawn Discussion (Spoilers!!!!!!!!!!!!)

I just finished reading Breaking Dawn and while I did enjoy reading it I was a bit disapointed for many of the various reasons already listed. I did like the "happy ending" of the story but I thought there should have been more excitement. I think I was totally expecting so much more from the final book and I was a bit let down.

I have to say that Eclipse was my favorite book of the four though.
