Breast Feeding/Bottles Question
So when I registered I got Dr. Browns bottles, which people bought me. I plan to try breast feeding and today I went to purchase my breast pump I noticed Medela now makes bottles you can directly pump into. Are they any good? Should I purchase them AND use Dr. Browns as well?
Then I also bought Lanisoh storage bags because I heard good things about them, but then I realized you cant pump directly into them so are they a waste? Or do I pump directly into whateva is attached to the breast pump and them put the milk in the Lanisoh bag?
Im sorry I am so confused ALL OVER AGAIN! I thought I had this down packed, but apparently I dont! LOL
And the Medela storage bags are better than the small storage bottles right? cause they only hold a small amount of milk?

Re: Breast Feeding/Bottles Question
I always pumped into bottles (I have a Medela pump, but I think I used Evenflo bottles attached to it) and then poured it in to the bags to store.
If you are talking about the small Medela storage bottles, yes, they only hold 3 ounces and the bags hold 6 I think.

Re: Breast Feeding/Bottles Question
I used the medela pump and easily attached the dr. brown bottles to them. I used the the medela bottles at first but really didn't like them. My DS did much better on the dr. brown bottles.

Re: Breast Feeding/Bottles Question
I have a Medela pump. I pump into the bottles it came with and then pour into the lansinoh bags. I typically freeze in increments of 1 oz, 2 oz and 3 oz. You're less likely to end up with waiste when you defrost. (This is what I did when I pumped for DS also.)
I use Born Free bottles. I tried every bottle under the sun and these are the ones DD decided to take. (I never got around to the Dr Browns. I was saving them for last because I didn't want to wash all the parts they came with.)
I didn't try the Medela bottles for feeding. I just haven't heard good things about them so I didn't bother.
I don't use the small storage bottles for freezing. I did try them with DS and found them to be a PITA. It is a lot easier to defrost the bags. If you're providing for daycare, you can easily defrost overnight in the fridge and then they only get heated for the feeding; and it's also very easy to heat them under hot tap water and then pour them directly into the bottle and serve, if the bottle is being prepared at home. (Daycare centers require that you provide the bottles already prepared with contents and date on a label.)

Re: Breast Feeding/Bottles Question
Medela makes great pumps but terrible bottles. I wouldn't use them.
Just an FYI, but Dr Brown's bottles aren't really great for BFing. The latch on that bottle is totally different than the latch on a breast. BreastFlow, Playtex Drop-ins, or Tommy Tipee are better options.

I don't think so. But you'd transfer the milk into something else anyway - a bottle if you're serving immediately, or a bag if you plan to freeze it.

Re: Breast Feeding/Bottles Question
I pumped into the Medela bottles. I bought a bunch of extra storage bottles because I planned to pump when I returned to work. I stored the milk in the Medela bottles and used Avent bottles for daycare. I liked using the Medela storage bottles because they were easy to transport in the Medela cooler to and from work. If I wasn't going to use the milk within 4-5 days, I'd transfer the milk from the Medela storage bottles to the Lansinoh freezer bags. There were definitely a bunch of steps involved, but it worked well for me.

Re: Breast Feeding/Bottles Question
Playtex makes an attachment kit that works with medela pumps to pump directly into ventaire or drop ins wide neck bottles. Very convenient.

that doesn't mean it won't work for you and your baby. DD nursed and took bottles til 9m when my supply was next to nothing and i stopped nursing. the only bottles that relieved her gas at the beginning were the dr. browns. but she was always a great latch-er from the beginning so we didnt have a problem with the transition. we tried the tommy tippee and hated them cause the nipples collapsed, and the playtex drop-ins i loved but they did nothing for DDs gas issues. we ended up with dr. browns and had absolutely no issues.
i think you said you already got the Dr. Brown's bottles, but in the end if you plan to BF and use bottles, you will need to use whatever works best for you and your baby, so you need not commit to anything now. you can pump into bottles or into bags, whatever you prefer really.
