Breast Infection from BF?

How did you know you had it? I posted the other day how I stopped pumping & nursing last Thursday...I was down to only pumping once a day for 10 minutes total before I stopped. Well I stopped cold turkey Chat Icon now 9 days ago, and my boob is KILLING me still, soooo swollen & lumpy & sore. How would I know if I need to go to the doc, and if so, what do? The OB?

Thanks!

Re: Breast Infection from BF?

Is the lump hot, and hard, maybe a little sore to the touch?

If so, yes you have a plugged duct/infection.

If you have flu like symptoms, fever, chills, that's mastistis.

You can work the plugged duct out with some hot/cold compresses and hand expressing a little and massage, if not def call OB, they should be able to give you antibiotic and some tips.

I hope you feel betterChat Icon

Re: Breast Infection from BF?

Hi, sorry you're going through this. I had an infection once when DD was about 6 wks & it made me feel nauseous & I had a slight fever. My bbs were also super tender/in pain (to the point I could barely wear a bra). I called my OB & she saw me that day & gave me antibiotics. She also said to take warm showers & to massage them. (Yet I was still nursing...)

Hope you feel better. Chat Icon

Re: Breast Infection from BF?

Thanks ladies. I haven't noticed a fever or being nauseous, thankfully. I had clogged ducts before when I was nursing, this feels similar, but HUGE lumps and very, very sore. Should I still try to massage them/express if I'm not nursing anymore? It's so confusing Chat Icon

Oh goodness, that's horrible. No, I don't have any of these symptoms, thankfully. Just very, very engorged and painful. I'll try to wait it our or I don't know what...

Thanks ladies Chat Icon

cabbage leaves are one of those tried-and-true remedies....they stay cool (keep them iin the fridge, obviously)and they are very soothing. I slept with them in and even though they are funny looking I never laughed at how much better they made me feel Chat Icon

Re: Breast Infection from BF?

I had 2 breast infections. Both times I ran a very high, like 103-104 fever and my boobs were burning hot to the touch. I had to be treated with antibiotics both times. My doctor told me to do warm compresses, warm showers and to keep nursing through it.

Wow, that was a good catch! Strage connection though Chat Icon Thankfully I'm not allergic to penicillin, so I'll have to try the leaves today.

Thanks Alicia for the tip! Chat Icon
