Breast milk storage ?
How long can BM saty in the fridge before being frozen?
UGH!!! Let me preface this with: I have my family staying with me.
On 8/3, I pumped 4oz and put it in the top shelf of the fridge to freeze later that day. Today (8/5) I just went into the fridge and saw a bag of milk in the fridge door marked 8/3. I never froze the milk from that day. SOMEONE obviously moved it to the door and I didn't see it (so I forgot to or already thought I put in the freezer).
Please tell me I don't have to dump this milk!!

Re: Breast milk storage ?
Why don't you use that bag today so you can pump a fresh bag and toss that one in the freezer?

Re: Breast milk storage ?
Just out of curiosity, is there a reason you didn't put it directly into the freezer?
And I agree with the previous poster to give it to DD today - even perhaps take advantage of the situation and go out for a little bit by yourself and have someone else feed her!

Re: Breast milk storage ?
I believe the rule of breast milk is 6 days in the fridge, 6 months in the freezer.

I've read in my breastfeeding *bible* to let it cool in the fridge before freezing. Also, I tend to pump throughout the day, then "marry" it all in 4oz increments- so i usually have bags hanging out in the fridge throughout the day until they go in the freezer later.

Re: Breast milk storage ?
i have read 72 hours in the fridge 3 months if frozen in regular freezer and 6 months if frozen in a deep freezer. I dont keep my pumped milk in the fridge for more than 3 days.
