breast pump recommendation
I just found out that my insurance will 100% cover a breast pump for me as long as it's not Hospital Grade. With DD I didn't pump, but would like to try this time around. Any suggestions of a good one? I'm very unfamiliar with pumps in general. With DD I did try with a cheaper one, but was unsuccessful (and I was a SAHM anyhow so I didn't bother to keep trying). This time around I would really like to be able to do it so I need one that's not only easy to clean, but also that works well. Any suggestions for a good brand would be awesome

Spectra S2. It's considered hospital grade but is usually covered by insurance anyway because it's not nearly as expensive as a medela symphony.
Did your insurance give you a list of companies to order from? Usually they have a list of which ones your insurance covers.

No, she told me any brand they will reimburse me 100% for as long as it's not hospital grade. She said just go to Walmart and pick my favorite, then fill out a patient claim form and send it in with the receipt to get my money back.

Oh that's weird. My insurance, and most, make you go through one of their suppliers and then they have a list f covered pumps.
I love my spectra s2, but it is hospital grade. They also have an s9 which is portable. Spectra is a closed system which I love.
Medela is very popular, but open system. It's easy to get parts for it though and accessories.

I used the medela with my first too.
Open system means that milk can flow into the tubes, another thing to wash and make sure doesn't get mold, etc.
Closed means there is no way milk can get into the tubes or actual pump

I was surprised too when I talked to my insurance company this afternoon. They don't even ask for proof of pregnancy. Most insurances make you prove the birth of your baby, don't they? I know my friend said that she couldn't get one until after baby was born and it was irritating to wait so long for it. I specifically asked if there is any timeframe and she just said "No, congratulations on your pregnancy! Just pick one out and send us----- for refund".  Works for me!

Yeah that is lax. They will probably check with your OB though.
Did they give you a price limit? We had an issue bc the pump I wanted in my first pregnancy was on back ordered so they made an exception and said up to $250 or something and they would reimburse.
My insurance also doesn't send it until 30 days before you're due.

With #1 I needed to get a rx from my dr for a double electric pump. With #2, they just said to pick one from a list of companies and i just had to tell them my due date. I figured they knew I was pg from the many obgyn bills they received. I just had to be due within 30 days of ordering.

They didn't even ask for my due date. And it's not like I gave them my policy number so that they'd know from all of my OB appointments. I just talked to customer service & asked if breast pumps are covered and this is what she told me. Seems too simple. Maybe i should call again & confirm before i spend too much money on one. You'd think there would at least be a price limit!

Id call again to be sure. Did you have to enter your ID number at all when you called? Whenever I call, the first thing the automatic message does is ask for an ID number or SS# so whoever you get connected to has your information already.

Haha right? I wonder if they at least check in with OB appointments to see if I'm legit when i send in patient claim form. I just recently moved out of state so its not a NY health insurance. I'm def gonna call again though to double check before buying anything just in case this woman i talked to was way off on her information.
