Breastfeeding & TTC
Anyone here trying to TTC #2 while breastfeeding #1? My DS is 1 and we are ready to try to TTC #2. The problem is that he is still nursing and not ready to wean. Nor am I ready for him to wean. However, I still have not had 1 AF since I got pregnant with DS, so I am not ovulating yet. Just looking for any thoughts or experiences anyone might have!
Good luck to all who are TTC! It's quite the journey!!

It depends. I have done a lot of research, but I was looking for some personal experiences on here. When a child is nursing around the clock on demand, it is not likely you will ovulate. As they nurse less and less, your body can ovulate. There are plenty of women who get pregnant while BF.

I am ttc while still BFing my DS. (he is 16 months) I got AF back right after he turned 1. I know several people who have conceived while still BFing, including two who never got AF back. It's harder to monitor, and harder to predict but def can be done!

Crashing, I got pregnant while nursing. I was only nursing 2-3 times a day when I got pregnant DD was in the process of weaning. By the time I found out I was pregnant she had totally weaned. Two of my friends got pregnant while EBF. It's possible to get pregnant while nursing! I had gotten my period when DD turned 10 months, didn't get it at 11 months (but not pregnant, took a test), didn't get it at 12 months and was pregnant before I should have gotten it at 13 months.

I did not...but I have friends who did and both had m/c. I actually asked my dr. about this and he said its recommended to not bf for at least 2 months before trying. (although you definitely can have a successful pg if you conceive during BF)

this is completely untrue.
it is only difficult to conceive while nursing if you haven't gotten your cycle back yet. some people get it while nursing and others dont but its very dated to assume that you cant get pregnant while nursing.
basically many women dont get AF while nursing. but they will ovulate ONCE before that first AF comes. if you are not paying attention you most def can O and if you BD around that time get pregnant without ever getting AF back.
once you get AF back once it tends to regulate to somewhat of a regular cycle of some sort (may not be exactly like it was pre-baby though). at that point you can get pregnant the same way any non-nursing person can.

I could have written the same post, except DS is 8 months old. I don't want to start weaning until at least a year old. No AF yet. I am thinking about getting some ovulation tests in the next few months to see if anything is going on yet. Have you thought about monitoring for ovulation? You might be able to catch that first egg.
