Breastfeeding - does anyone know the statistics on how much immunity and what types, it provides the baby?
I was not really interested in BF for many reasons, but lately I have been considering doing this, strictly to help give my child some immunities. It's a big comittment for me, but if there is any merit to the reasoning below, I really am leaning towards doing it.
My reasons are my DH has allergies to many animals (as well as typical things) and asthma. I do not, never did. I am wondering if I do not have allergies, would breast feeding my child possibly help to prevent allergies and asthma, even if the child inherits his tendencies (not mine)?
Does anyone have any knowledge or literature/links about this? Thanks

I don't have any specific info, but I found this page put out by US Dept of Health and Human Srcs
There are a lot of links to additional info on the page that may be useful to you.

I just googled it and all studies seem to point out that it does not have a protective effect against asthma or allergies. I found many articles stating this, and it contradicts what both articles posted above (thanks girls).
I guess I will have to discuss this with a dr to be more sure since the info is conflicting.
