Re: breastfeeding AND formula
I spent all day Saturday with a friend of mine that has a 9 week old. She is breastfeeding and using formula. She said the doctor said she wasn't producing enough on her own. She could have produced more if she let him try more often and be hungry for a few days while her body realized what was going on. But she decided why do that and her doctor agreed. So she has been doing both since he was 4 weeks old. He has no problem going from breast to bottle and back again.

Re: breastfeeding AND formula
Its better to breastfeed only until your supply is established, then start supplementing if you choose to.

Re: breastfeeding AND formula
Ive been bfing for 2 weeks, but once in awhile i give DD formula. I try not to give it too often, but there are times when shes soo hungry and the breast doesnt seem to be enough, or if i get really sore. Bfing is hard, but as time is going by it seems to be getting alot better. If you do decide to bf, dont get discouraged it does take work and its not easy as it looks.

I took a BF class and this is what they told us. I would suggest either taking a class or getting in touch with a lactation consultant, they can help you with a plan of action.
I will say I am much more excited to BF now after the class than I was before. Before I was thinking of doing both or just formula if need be, now I am really commited to giving it a few weeks of EBF before making a determination.

Re: breastfeeding AND formula
you can absolutely do both. I supplemented my dd with formula from day one, slowly increasing the amount of formula she got. By 3 months, she was on 100% formula
