Breastfeeding and pump user moms..
For the moms who are breastfeeding/were breastfeeding, did you rent a pump or did you buy it?
I plan to at least breastfeed for 3 months, then on and off since I will be going back to work.
What did you do?
Is renting really cheaper in the long run? This is my understanding that you have to buy a kit with the rental pumps. How much $$ am I looking at for the kit?
TIA

i planned on the same thing, but my baby refused formula and I had to buy a pump to use at work, now he is 7 months and I am still bf and pumping. They are expensive to buy but they can be used for future children and bf costs much less than formula.

Re: Breastfeeding and pump user moms..
I rented a pump directly from Medela (as their headquarters happen to be right by my house) for me it was great because it was HUGE and hospital grade, and it cost me £35 a month, as opposed to buying one for hundreds...I had it for 8 months and it helped me out a ton!!

Re: Breastfeeding and pump user moms..
I only pumped and I rented mine. I think it cost me more than buying a PIS or something similar, but it was ALOT cheaper than buying one like the one I was renting.

Re: Breastfeeding and pump user moms..
I just bought mine because I wanted the backpack. I got it new and sealed off EBay for 200 some dollars...

What are the advantage(s) of a backpack version?

i think renting works out better especially if you are planning on only doing 3 months. good pumps are at least 200 and they aren't nearly as good as the hospital grade ones. if you rent from medela it will cost you 50 a month.

Do you know how much the kit that goes with it is?

Re: Breastfeeding and pump user moms..
Since I might be walking around with this thing for hours, the only advantage of the backpack is my coworkers don't need to know I'm carrying around a pump

Re: Breastfeeding and pump user moms..
I bought because I planned on BF for a year and had to go back to work in 12 weeks. The best investment I ever made!
I am going to be using it again this year with the second baby.
I have a Medela PIS in a regular carry on back, not back pack. Back pack is probably much easier to carry around but it just isn't my style at all. Besides, I always left the actual bag with the motor in my deck at work and only carried around the bottles and the tubes that I would wash and boil every day.
The kit is 39.99.
If you re not sure how long you will be usign it for perhaps you should rent it and see how it goes with the BF. You might get hooked and continue with it well past the 3 months mark.
