Breastfeeding beyond 6 months and weight loss
I've been bf for 7 months - things are going well! My dd is eating solids 3x/day and still nursing 5x/day. Just curious if people feel they are still a "bit" heavier than those who have already stopped bf. Is it true that your body keeps on 10 an extra lbs?

Re: Breastfeeding beyond 6 months and weight loss
i still have ten pounds to lose and DS is 8 months. I stopped pumping at work, but still pump before work and before bed. I also nurse DS before he goes to bed and at least once during the night. I didn't think the weight was from breastfeeding, just eating too much, but now you got me thinking.

Re: Breastfeeding beyond 6 months and weight loss
I'm one of the weird ones that actually GAINED weight from breastfeeding. All of the weight came off without exercise as soon as I stopped breastfeeding. I think my body was trying to hold onto all the weight it could while I was bfing because I was underweight to begin with.

Re: Breastfeeding beyond 6 months and weight loss
I'm still BFing at 9 months....I lost all my baby weight and then some shortly after, i think I was back in my pre pg clothes like 4 weeks after. Anyway, I kept the weight off all this time, but now, since DS is nursing less since he also is on solids 3 Xs a day, I've noticed my pants are a bit more snug and my belly is coming back. So I'm going to need to do something about that....or maybe I'm pregnant again.

Re: Breastfeeding beyond 6 months and weight loss
I lost all the weight I gained during pregnancy (16lbs.) plus 34 extra...so if there's still 10 more lbs. to lose, that's fine with me.

Re: Breastfeeding beyond 6 months and weight loss
Everyone's different. I've been breastfeeding for 7 months and have lost all my pregnancy weight plus another 4 or 5 lbs, without trying (no dieting or extra exercise -- although chasing after a preschooler and taking care of a baby is certainly exercise). So, in my case my body doesn't hold onto weight, but seems to burn more calories from breastfeeding.
