Baby weight at 2 months

So we had our follow up appt at Yale today!!! Alexa 5 weeks ago was 8 lbs 6 ozs at 3 weeks of age (only 4 ozs above her birth weight Chat Icon )

Today she was 10lbs 2 ozs!!!

The ped said he doesn't really look at percentiles but tols me she is 75th for lenght (23 inches long) and 25-50% for weight......

I normally woudln't worry about this but I am curious how delayed she may still be weight wise...... We are also transitioning to the breast over the bottle and that of course has me worried all over again. She has NEVER been a big eater. Even when she was exclusively bottle fed she only eats 18-22 ozs a day.....

I swear I never stop worrying.....

How long was your baby and how much did they weigh at 2 months???

Re: Baby weight at 2 months

My 2 month visit was actually at 6.5 weeks and DD was 9lbs 13.5 oz, and 21.5 inches. I don't know what percentile she fell into. The ped was happy with that weight. I would assume at a week and half later at 2 months, she was close to what your DD weighs. Sounds normal to me, she could just be petite.

ETA: At 2.5 weeks of age, DD was only AT her birth weight (she lost alot before we even left the hospital).

Re: Baby weight at 2 months

my DS is the opposite way. At 2 mos he was 13.1 lbs and 22 inches. I don't bother thinking about those percentile things but anywho he was 75-85% for weight and 50% for length.

DD was born 8lbs 12oz, 21 inches.. at her 6 weeks appt she weighted 12 lbs, and 24 inches long. She's 8 weeks this Friday.
Ped never mention percentile at our visits, and I didn't ask, I know she's growing fineChat Icon

Re: Baby weight at 2 months

I normally wouldn't be too concerned with percentiles. I was just curious because she lost A LOT of weight in the beginning. I am more interested in what other babies weighed around the same time........

I'm just nervous that she is still behind in growth even though she is hitting miles stones (can already roll over and has AWESOME head control) early.

THe rational side of me says don't worry and I know she is doing fine..... But my paranoid side is kicking in today!!!Chat Icon

DS is 25th percentile for weight, 75th for height, and pretty much has been in both categories since birth. I got worried too when I heard 25th percentile, it doesn't sound good. But his doctor said she looks for consistency in growth, and that his body composition tends to be long and lean, at least for now. This is just how he is.

I wouldn't worry about it unless weight drops or your doctor has concerns. I think there is so much emphasis on the idea that chubby babies=healthy babies that we worry when our little ones are thin!

WOW, you've got one advanced baby! DD can't roll over yet, but she can push herself up a little.

Thats what the Dr said was that she was long and lean... I'm good with that. I was just nervouse cause apparrently she was in the 85th percentile when she was born and dropped to the 45th for both and stayed that way until about 5 weeks and is slowly coming up........

Great to know that you DS is like Alexa and is doing well!

I can understand your concern, I really can since DS was also larger at birth (8.1 pounds), initially lost, then slowly regained.

I honestly don't think he has ever been that interested in food, and he will forget to eat if we don't feed him--he was even like this as a baby. He is hitting all his milestones though, and seems to be doing just fine. I think some kids just tend to be thin. You might need to be a little more vigilant making sure she eats/drinks enough, but she should be fine!

THanks.... Alexa is JUST LIKE your DS.... SHe is NOT a big eater at all....... It will be interesting when she is a toddler. It's funny cause DH and I LOVE to eat.... I was plus size when I got PG and have slowly been losing weight. I guess I thought I was going to have a chubby baby who loved to eat like her mom and dad! Chat Icon

I wouldn't worry. My DD was never above the 5th percentile and she's just fine. She had reflux and barely ate. She still eats like a bird at 3 and is right on target for everything.

Re: Baby weight at 2 months

My son was born tiny- 6lbs 6 1/2 ounces 18 1/2 inches

At his two month he was 12 1/2 pounds, 22 1/4 inches.

He is 75% for weight and 25- 50% for height.

The doctor is fine with these stats, but I do wish he was a little longer.

WOW! She's right up there with my DS. @ his 2 month visit, he was 10lbs. 6 oz., and 22 3/4 inches (almost 23 lol). At birth he was 7lbs.

She's growing beautifully! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

PS. Don't worry about the ounces..DS still only eats 2.5-3.5 ounces a feeding (he's 11 weeks now). He averages 20-24 oz. a day. (I pump and bottle feed).

Kaitee was born at 8 lbs 7 ozs 18.5 inches and at 2 months was 12 lbs 6 ozs and 22 1/4 inches.

Brooke was born at 9 lbs 3.7 ozs and was 18 inches long(we think they measured her wrong, we think she was around 19 or 20 inches), at 2 months she was weighed 15 lbs and 9.6 ozs and 24 inches tall.

Well, I am told I was not a big eater as a baby either, and that is sooo different now! DS does like his snacks--he is very interested in snacks. Just not so much his regular food.

Re: Baby weight at 2 months

I am not going to tell you DSs weight because he was always a big baby (9.14 at birth) and always a big eater (at 3 months he was tkaing about 42oz of forumula a day!)

But I will say dont worry.
My niece is 18 months older than DS and she is a peanut! She is maybe 1 inch taller than him and weights 5lbs less than him but she is perfectly happy healthy little girl! She is just one of those kids who is not a big eater and burns off her calories quickly!
