Broken bone + being a mommy = disaster.
I tripped and fell as we were rushing out to school. Long story short I have a broken bone in my ankle, wearing a cast which hopefully will progress to a boot in a couple of days, on crutches etc etc.
I have a 5 year old, a 19 month old, a self employed husband who has to work and zero help once monday starts, what can I do? PLUS I have to work from home.
Any moms out there who broke bones and have any tips for me?
I feel like I am going to lose my mind. I dont know what I will do if the surgeon tells me that I have to stay off my foot for longer than a couple of more days.

WOW serendipity - so sorry to hear this
To be honest I dont even know which bone I broke but will know more tomorrow. The talar bone is sounding familiar though so it could be the same one. I fell thursday and immediately after falling I drove DD to school all the while my ankle was swelling out of my shoe I then proceeded to carry my 19mth old into the school to drop DD off and came home and collapsed in pain. I then drove myself to the doc with the two kids on friday and he sent me for an xray where they told me it was a break.
The ER doc said that it was not to hit the ground for the next few days and to get to the ortho surgeon either tomorrow or tuesday at the latest. I will get a boot then but dont know how much activity I can do with that on.
I am going stark raving bad sitting on the couch while the kids take the crutches and fight each other with them...DH is running around the house with his head cut off while claiming he has it all under control and all I can see from my perch on the couch are dust bunnies having a field day on my floor.
How are you feeling now? is the pain going away? are you able to put your foot down with the boot on?

I broke my right pinky and sprained my wrist last Sunday. Have a hard splint from the tip of my pinky and ring finger past my wrist. And I am a righty...It sucks. I have a 16 month old who is very active lately...I am his primary caregiver with a little bit of help from family... I have another 2 weeks until i see the ortho again...Hopefully everyone heals fast and stays safe for the rest of the year..

Re: Broken bone + being a mommy = disaster.
Oh I feel your pain. I have herniated disks and 1 broke and went into my nerves and affected my left leg...ended up in the hospital 2/14 w/ surgery on 2/16 and can't do anything including lifting my 17 month old..since then and will start to lift her next weekend as long as everything at my 2nd f/u appt on Friday (3/11) goes well. I have been out of work since 2/14 and I work full time. DH took 2.5 wks of family medical leave off to help me but today he went back to work. If it wasn't for my DH, my mom and family I don't know what we would do...thank god for them all..b/c they all are taking care of DD and they help me as well...I am also a person who likes to do it all on my own but sometimes you have to just let people help you.
I feel bad for you b/c I know how hard it is....do you have anyone that can help you? Can you afford to hire someone to come in and help you? Does your DC go to daycare? Our DD does go 3 days a week so my DH and mom would take here there for those 3 days to give themselves a break.....

Well the first 1-2 days I got the boot I couldn't bear any weight, wed I was better able to. And now today even more, so I can get around BUT so many people are telling me that I should NOT be walking even with the boot, the ortho didn't say. He said to use the cutches as needed. So now I am confused. I go back this week and see the ankle specialist and I am hoping he can give me more answer. To make matters worse....I am a nurse! I actually am an instructor for one of the colleges where I teach the students in the clinical setting and I am not allowed back to work (in the hospital until this boot is off) according to my job. And its MID semester and I only work 2 days a week!!! It wasn't until yesterday I was able to bear any weight with boot off. They told me the purpose of the boot was so I can shower, but I wasn't able to stand on it until yesterday anyway! Sooo frustrating. how long did they tell you??? Ortho told me 4 weeks with this thing on!!!

Re: Broken bone + being a mommy = disaster.
I haven't see the ortho yet - only the ER doc so I will know more on tuesday. I looked at my discharge notice and I have an acute broken fibula.
I am going to DIE if I cannot walk around by mid week. I will keep you posted.
