Re: BTDT - C-sections
The first time my doc mentioned a c section was at my last appointment. She thought the baby was big also. Turns out she was 7'13..nice size but not huge.
I had a c because after pushing for 3 hours, she didnt descend AT ALL. I was in a lot of pain (they shut off my epi to push) and by that time, it was dangerous not to have the surgery. We needed to get her out.
The actual surgery was a breeze..besides being freezing cold and throwing up once, it was fine.
Recovery was a little rought for ME. I say me like that because everyone is different. Just make sure you move around once they give you the ok. The gas buildup is almost the worst part..get moving and it helps so that gas wont settle as much.
Good luck!!

Re: BTDT - C-sections
So I was wondering, how many of you had c-sections? I did
Schedule or not? Most definitely NOT scheduled
Reason for the section? After about 16 hours of going natural, cervix cut 3 times, pre-eclampsia, baby flipped sunnyside up, and stuck at 6 cen. for hours with petocin, it was inevitable.
And how was your experience overall with a section and recovery? The section wasn't bad at all. I HATED every minute of recovery. It sucked. I got an infection at the incision site and it was a painful recovery.
This is MINE and MINE only experience. I know MANY women on here who have had an absolute breeze with a section. SO... it's different for EVERY single person.
YOU do what's right FOR YOU!!

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a cs. I was 5 days late & sked to go in the following night for an induction...then my water broke (Fri)...but not dilated past 1 cm...they started me on pitocin that night & the following am I started having strong contractions. I progressed to 7cm by 7pm that night but baby was still not dropping....at 830 she looked at me & said its looking like a cs...b/c your water broke over 24 hours ago & you're just not progressing. I was so upset/disappointed. W/i an hour i was ready & at 9:26 pm she was born.
I had a wonderful experience & thanks to another LIF'er made sure I got up first thing the next am (bathroom & then was walking down to the NICU) as much as I can. I had no problem w/ recovery at all, just some gas pain the 3rd day or so. My incision is barely there already & it really wasn't a bad experience. The 2 negatives were being totally freezing after the cs & shaking & then the nurse massaging the uterus immediately after the surgery to avoid any blood clots...oh & the tape they attached the bandage with (trying to remove it). Otherwise, no problems at all.
See what happens, but know its not bad. Good luck!

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I didn't have a c-section, but I was in the same boat as you.
i was actually not dilated or effaced at all 2 days past my due date. Little man ended up coming 5 days after EDD.
The day after my due date, I had a sonogram and they estimated him at 9 pounds 8 ounces... he ended up 8 pounds 7 ounces at birth... so they can be wrong with the weight estimates.
I'm curious to know why they are talking about c-section so soon. My doctor was going to let me go at least a week and a half past my due date.
Labor vibes for you!!!

Re: BTDT - C-sections
48 hours of labor and ended up with a c-section.
the surgery itself wasn't too bad- the first few days were bad but once I was 5 days past the surgery the recovery was quite easy.
Never had any problems with the epi or the incision except the incision is still itchy- just use some lotion.
I am probably going to schedule my section for #2 in April.

This is one of my drs points. She doesnt want me to have to go through both, especially if they are worried that I might not be able to push a large baby out.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I was scheduled for a c-section but the week before that had to have an emerg c-section.
I had toxemia that was very bad and threw me into the beg stages of labor at week 36-37.
I had an awesome recovery. I was up and down the stairs from day 1 when I got home. I was very lucky. I only had to take some pain medicine in the hospital 2 days. Nothing when I got home. My scar is the smallest ever. You can't even see it.
Good Luck!!!

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a section, not planned, after being induced and not progressing past 5cm after 16 hours. He was trying to squeeze through anyway and his heartrate was dropping b/c of that. So, we had to section. For me, it really wasn't too bad. I don't really even remember the pain, I'm sure it was there, but 8 months later I don't remember it. I do remember shaking uncontrollably and being nauseated the first night. I was also itchy from the anesthesia, but Benadryl helped that. The gas pains and having a b/m for the first time were a little rough, but nothing unmanageable. I remember being petrified the first time the nurse came to my room to get me up and sitting in a chair. I was soooooo scared, and once I got there and sat down I was thinking, "that wasn't so bad...." Everyone's experience is different, but mine was not so bad.... Plus you get extra R&R and extra help while in the hospital for recovery.... Good luck to you!

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a c-section. It was sechedued. Because DD was breach.
My experience was great! I woke up in the morning and knew, I'm having a baby today. I got the hospital 2 hours before the c-section. I was wheeled into the OR at 9 (my appointment), they gave me the epidural, laid me down adn DH was brought in. DD was born 9:31. I was completely awake and alert. When they cleaned her up DH got to hold her and I was taking pictures.
I stayed in the hospital 5 days. It was really good to have round the clock care during those first 5 days. It really helped me during breastfeeding because I always had someoene there to help me. The first day I couldn't move (because I was all hooked up to a catheter). Once they gave me the OK to walk, I walked that minute. I took a walk around the hospital floor every few hours. I had medicine for the pain, so it wasn't too bad.
When I got home, I only needed the medication for 2 days. I healed perfectly. My DH can't find the scar.
All in all, it was a very civilized way to have a baby! FM me if you have any questions.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
Julia was born 2 weeks early because I had high BP and went in for an emergency c-section, I had an overall good experience, my nurses were great and let me know everything that was going on, and I wasn't in that much pain (thankGod for med's) but I was up walking around the next day with out any problems.
I did have trouble sleeping at night and would only be comfortable on my back and I hate sleeping that way, so my DH brought up my body pillow so I can sleep on my side, and that helped a lot.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
Cailen was a peanut but I had low fluid so I had to be induced. My Dr knew I wanted to avoid a c section so she induced me 2 times with cervadil since the first time didn't work! After 20 hours I knew it would have to be a c s. I was so upset but now I am happy I had one. Recovery was fine and I didn't get any of the problems my friends with vaginal births had

Re: BTDT - C-sections
So I was wondering, how many of you had c-sections?
ME!!
Schedule or not?
NOT!
Reason for the section?
I was a week late and after 36 hours of labor, I was only 3cm dilated and the baby was moving in the opposite direction. She was moving up. not down!!
And how was your experience overall with a section and recovery.
Winthrop was great and all of the nurses were amazing. The surgery was fine and recovery was great. I thought the 3rd and 4th days were the roughest, but take advantage of the drugs while you are in the hospital. I felt pretty much fine after 2 weeks.
My DD wound up being 9.7 lbs. We thought she would hit 10
here's a picture of her moving up in my belly. She went up and over. When DH saw this picture, he thought my belly was my knee!!!
WARNING - Whale Alert!!

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I've had two.
The first one was emergency. DD's heartrate was plummeting and after going through several remedies in a relatively short period of time, I was wheeled off. I HATED the entire thing. I had a panic attack on the table and was stunned by how difficult recovery was in the first couple of days. By the time I got home, though, I felt almost fine.
My 2nd DD was born via scheduled c-section. I was going to try VBAC, but she didn't come on time, so that was that. I didn't like the fact that it was so "planned." You know, like I shouldn't be the one determining my DC's birthdate, etc. However, overall my 2nd experience was MUCH better!! I knew what to expect and that was half the battle I think.
So now, any future children I have "need" to be c/s. And well, I'm not complaining.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a C-section which was not scheduled. DS was 9 days late and still very high after my water broke so I had a c-section. I had no problems during the c-section and no problems with recovery.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a c-section that was definitely not planned. I was in labor for 30 hours pushed for 2 and the baby flipped sunnyside up. You could see the top of her head but she wasn't going to make it through. The recovery wasn't bad at all-I was in more pain from pushing. The incision isn't bad at all. My advice is to get up afterwards ASAP. I also had the shaking afterwards but I slept through most of it.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
Had a c-section, not scheduled. Baby was not 'happy', her heartrate would drop during contractions. As I was progressing the less 'happy' she was. Midwife called the doc and they suggested a c. Turns out the Wharton’s jelly (stuff that covers the umbilical cord and makes it rigid) was pretty much gone so her cord was getting crushed during a contraction. So glad we have modern medicine. I have a healthy girl and she was born problem free with a c.
Recovery was fine. Took me awhile to be able to run again, but I felt good pretty much 2 days later.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a c/s and it was not scheduled. I had an emergency c/s because DD heartrate dropped to 40 beats per minute for 13 minutes(I had a 13 minute long contraction that would not go away and was squeezing her). I had general anestesia because I opted not to get the epi(I was a chicken) I was in hard labor with my water broken for about 10 hours prior to c/s. I will be have a scheduled c/s with this one in april. I do not want to riask having labor AND a c/s. It was exhausting. It does hurt after the c/s but at least there will be no labor ontop of it.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a c-section not scheduled. I was induced because I had GD and they thought the baby would get too big if they let me go to my due date. I was in the hospital for 48 hours, given pitocin, cervadil and some other stuff and only got to 2 cm. I never had strong contractions thank God. After 48 hours my dr. decided to do a c-section and honestly...it was the best thing. I walked into the OR on my own. THey put the spinal tap in me...slight pinch. From there on I didn't feel anything but pressure when she was coming out.
The recovery went very well. I was very sore the first few days but nothing unbearable...and remember there are always drugs if you need them
By one week PP I felt really good now at 4 weeks PP I feel like my normal self again. THe incision is a little itchy but other than that I wouldn't even tell I had surgery. Good Luck!!!!
ETA: The hospital I gave birth at woke me up at 6 am the next morning and made sure I sat up...it was the best thing. The quicker you do the first things...sit up walk the better. By the end of that day I was walking...slow but walking. I think it made the recovery alot easier and faster.

Re: BTDT - C-sections
I had a c-section
it was not scheduled but I knew it was a real possibility
I went in Monday night for cervadil to ripen my cervix. We started pitocin on Tuesday (due to a blood disorder I had to be induced which I knew may lead to a c-section - my dd was also measuring 4 weeks ahead so we knew she was gonna be big)
after 6 hours on ptiocin with no progression and some signs of fetal distress, we had a c-section
I had a GREAt experience and recovery and I would do it again in a heartbeat
dd was born at 9lb, 8oz (my growth sono was VERY accurate)
good luck

Re: BTDT - C-sections
Mine was not scheduled - I never progressed past 8 cm. My recovery was great - I was out shopping the day after I got home and cleaning my bathroom the following week.
