Btdt -- wills and assign a guardian for children if you pass-
Is there a specific type of lawyer you have to deal with in order to assign a guardain to take care of your child if you and your so were to pass away?
I want to start this and my DH's job offers the opportunity to a lawyer for an extra $10 a month out of paycheck..

I would go to an estate attorney. That is the area of the law that they speicialize in.

Any lawyer who does wills and estate planning can do this. Usually, you just have a will prepared and put a statement in it as to who you wish to become their guardian should you and your DH pass while they are underage.
It shouldn't be a major expense, either. Call around and get prices.
