BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
My DD is only 15 1/2 months old so I am sure I have plenty of time but I was wondering.........when do you make the switch from the crib to a toddler bed?

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
I never moved to a toddler bed; she went straight to a twin bed. She was 3 years 4 mos!
My little one is 2.5 and I plan to make the switch at her 3rd birthday.
There were/are never any issues with them in the crib like climbing out, etc. so I figured why mess with a good thing?

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
my dd began throwing herself out of her crib at 21 months, we are not the "crib tent type of people" so we moved her into a full sized bed and she did AMAZING

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
No toddler bed here! Straight to twin bed this past weekend. DS will be 3 next week. He never ever tried climbing out of the crib and seemed happy in there, so, we left him as long as we could.

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
We are moving DD into a toddler bed in 2 weeks. I am due with DC#2 March 7th and they will be sharing a room. There isn't enough space for a twin bed and a crib so we're going the toddler bed route. She turns 2 on the 24th which is around when we'll start with the toddler bed.

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
My 1st DD moved to a twin bed (we never switched to toddler bed) at 19 months without an issue. Her little sister was born when she was 20 months - so we decided to transition her early. My 2nd DD was then born - she is now 2 years 2 months old - and still in her crib. We will probably make the switch this summer or when she turns 3.

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
DS is 27 months and he's still in his crib. We want to keep him in there for as long as he is not climbing out. We're not planning on getting a toddler bed, he will go straight to a twin.

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
Thanks for the replies. I was curious because although my crib is at the lowest setting my DD is on the taller side so I was wondering how long I will be able to keep in the crib without having to worry if she will either fall over the rail or try and climb out. Guess we'll see.

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
the decision was made for me when DS was 20.5 months old.
we woke up in the morning to a loud THUMP
we RAN into DS' room to find him on the WRONG side of the crib, pointing his finger at the crib and yelling "NO, CRIB!!"... (this was during a phase when he yelled at inanimate objects )
we asked him to show us how he got out of the crib, thinking maybe he had stood on his stuffed animals... but actually he had just hoisted himself out with no help from anything...
so we went out and bought him a toddler bed that morning...
ETA: my son was tiny at that point, barely the 20th percentile for height. my nephew is off the charts for height and never got out of the crib. so i don't think size really matters...

totally agree, i would never have transitioned my child had he not jumped out.
at least in the crib you know they're safe...

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
We transitioned DD out of her crib at 22 months, only b/c DS came along & we didn't want to buy another crib.
It was a rough adjustment at first, but also b/c she moved to a new room. She's 29 months now & we'll be buying a twin bed soon.
If it wasn't for her brother, we would have kept her in the crib as long as possible; she slept a lot better in there.

Re: BTDT Moms - From crib to toddler bed
Jack tried to jump out a few times after we brought the baby home. I put him in the sleepsack and that took care of that. I plan on keeping him in the crib until at least three. I'm a big believer of "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
