BTDT moms - gift from baby for older DC ??

If you got your older DC a gift from the new baby, when did you give it to them?????
We got DD a small gift from the new baby and we are not sure when to give it to her.

I got two presents from the baby to my DD and they were both too big and clumsy to bring to the hospital so I wrapped them and hid them in the house and when she came to visit me in the hospital I told her that they were at home waiting for her.

She was 3 at the time so I dont recall her questioning how the baby managed to get them to our house for her but it actually worked out great as she was so sad to leave me and my DS in the hospital that this was a good distraction.

We gave it to him when we got home from the hospital. He got a little something (a stuffed Tigger doll) from us as a big brother gift. We gave that to him when he first came to the hospital to meet his baby brother, a few hours after he was born. We waited on the gift from the baby until we all came home because we also wanted it to be a sign of the fact that this new baby was part of our family now, which we thought wouldn't sink in until he was home.

Thank you! I will wait to give DD her gift until we get home. I think that will be the best because I want it to be just US when she gets her gift.

I had DS go to the store and help me pick out a present for him to give DD when she was born. I picked out the Handy Manny Repair Truck for DS (loved that toy). DS "gave" DD her lamaze firefly the minute she came home from the hospital. My mom had DS at our house and DH and I drove home from the hospital with DD. DH put DD down in her carrier on the floor when we came home and handed DS the toy to give to DD. I then told DS DD had a big surprise for him, and she was so excited he was her big brother. DH brought the toy from hiding in the closet. DS loved it. It was interactive and perfect. He played with it all the time. I also had small things for DS when he came to visit us in the hospital to keep him occupied. (I.E. New board book, stickers, crayons/paper). One piece of advice - after delivery have your older DC meet you in your room, then have the nurse bring your new baby in to meet all of you. Don't have the baby in your arms first or the older child might feel replaced/interloaper. Let the older DC welcome the baby into the room. DS "met" DD when the rest of the family did - she was behind the glass getting examined. It saddened me that I did not get to see his first reaction in person - photos were taken. I was in my room recovering from a c/s. Also - if your older DC is young, have someone whose job it is to take care of the older child in the hospital. When you get home from the hospital - have visitors go to the older child first. They will feel better about things and the new DC will not know.

We got my DD a Miss Piggy doll (her FAVORITE character). She's 2 1/2 and we will be giving it to her at home the day of my discharge.

I think I'm getting DD a few things - probably one gift for every day I'm away. One of the gifts will definitely be a baby doll, so we'll both have a baby to take care of. We'll tell her the presents are from the baby.
