BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
Sorry if this is a dumb question, but is there anyway to predict your DC's clothing size?
There are so many good sales going on right now, I'd love to stock up for next summer.
She was 9.7 when she was born, and a couple weeks ago at her 8 month checkup she was 19.14 and 27.5 inches long. She's currently wearing 9 month or 12 month clothes. 12-18 mth is too big.
Do you think 18 month would be ok for next summer?
Any advice from BTDT moms would be great!
TIA!

If she is in 12 month now then I think 18 month will be small next summer

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
Quite honestly, I learned the hard way not to buy for a different season. Ava grew so fast and still does that I could never estimate what size to buy. For example, I just bought 3T shorts in April for this summer because she was just getting into 3T. They were all on clearance and I was excited to get a good deal. Well, fast forward two months to June when it came time to wear the shorts and she outgrew them! So, for me, what I do is this: I buy a few things at the start of a season for her to wear, then a couple of weeks into the season, everything is on clearance and on sale anyway, so I buy the rest of her clothes for that particular season. It's worked out well so far, I don't miss the sales and I don't have to guess her size. HTH, I'd just hate to see you spend money adn not be able to use the clothes.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
I've always bought for next season and never had issues. Sounds like your girl is the same size as mine were, and by the second summer, they were in 18 months or even 24 months (at about 14-16 months of age).
My DD just turned 2 and she is in 3T or even 4T (Children's Place runs super small IMO). I have found that once they hit 3 or 4 years old (as my son is now), they slow down in growth a little).

Yep, big misake. I learned the hard way and so did my Mom. She loves shopping the sales but in the end, it's a waste of money b/c hardly anything fit. DS had a huge growth spurt. Then, when she was buying for my niece, she took into account DS's growth spurt but well, my niece stayed small so everything is too big for her! You just never know.

I never buy in advance because I think it's too hard to predict. NOw that my DS is a little older it might be easier because he will be in toddler sizes.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
My DD was 7 months old at this time last year. My MIL and myself bought her 18-24 month clothes for this Summer, and it worked out wonderfully.
She was able to wear the clothes during our little Florida getaway in March. They were a little big, but I was glad I didn't need to purchase all full-priced summer clothes for it. Her little sundresses were maxi style in March, but now they fit perfect. I do think you can get a lot of mileage out of dresses.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
If you want to buy now I would get 24 months. That is pretty safe. She may not be in it in the beginning of the summer if her growth slows down but she will be by the end of the summer. Buy jumpers and stuff that is not a big deal if it is a little big. I bought a ton of stuff for next year last week. Fingers crossed that it works.

welp I made the mistake too last year buying for the summer. DD is 18 months old and she is in 3T clothing! I purchased a ton of 2T, 18 month, 24 month and what a waste! thank goodness I am having another girl!

It's hard to predict. My DD just about skipped right over 2T.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
Marron was always in the "right" size for her age so I have gotten lucky buying stuff in advance for her. Her first year, she was in 3 months in the summer (which is how old she was) and I bought some 12 month stuff for the following year; she was in 12 months last summer and I bought a few things in 24 months for this year and they all fit perfectly. I think if her size, and growth has been predictable you might be ok to get some stuff now for next year. I agree with getting stuff that doesn't matter too much with size, especially length -- like dresses & shorts.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
DD is too hard to predict, so although I am sooooo tempted, I just can't do it.
She is 22 months and still wearing 12 months bottoms and 18 month tops right now. I just bought some 18 month pants for the fall and I think she will be in 24 months shirts for the fall...but I have no idea what she will be in for next summer.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
I really can never predict how DS is going to grow, so despite how tempting it is I usually try to refrain from shopping for the next year...it always screws me in the end
Last summer (when he was only 9-10 months old) he was wearing 18 month clothing comfortably. Then after he turned 1 yr old in October, he slowed down CONSIDERABLY in his growth.
given his size last summer, I was sure he'd be in 3T clothing by this summer... so I did buy some 3Ts -- but wrong I was. Right now he's comfortable in 2T and sometimes the 2Ts (depending on brand) are too big in the waist and fall right off him (and I have a big boy, he's well over 30 lbs and 35 inches tall so I don't get sometimes how certain 2Ts are so big on him )
2T shirts fit fine ... and some of the 3Ts shirts I bought last year I can get away with. But shorts/pants are completely unpredictable

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
I think it is hard to predict - last summer DD was born 9lbs 4 ozs and was in the 90th percentile for her weight and 75% for height. Well - at 12 months she was 29 inches and 20 lbs 1 oz. Last summer she was flying thru her clothes and people gave us a lot of 18 month clothing for her to wear this summer - and I bought a few things thinking at the rate she had been growing during the year she would be wearing 18 months for at least part or most of the summer - but now her 12 months stuff is huge - the only 18 month clothing she wears are bathing suits b.c the 12 month ones are too big. I learned my lesson not to buy for next year b.c I just don't know what to predict.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
I generally dont buy for the following year...basically b/c I'll forget where I put it..
Summer is easier to buy for though than winter b/c you dont have to worry about things being too short like sleeves and pants...
You cant really go by how big she was at birth b/c that doesnt really have anything to do with what size baby she is. You'll probably be getting her 18 months at a year for her winter clothes. So 24months or 2T will be OK for the summer clothes. Just keep in mind how the sizing goes in the brand that you are buying....Dresses can be a little short b/c you can put shorts under them...Some of her stuff from this summer will probably fit her next year too..

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
I have bought a ton of stuff for next year. If it doesn't fit, I figure I'll sell it on ebay since most of it is Gap. I bought 24 mos and 2t. She's a shorty and is in 12 months for most things right now.

I did the same. My kids have been pretty consistent in terms of size-to-age ratio, but I've had way too many with tags on in the goodwill bin to do it again.
It's easier now that they are older & I'm not changing clothing bins every 6 months. Now I buy a full size ahead. Maddie was a 4T last summer. Last year's winter jacket was a 5T. It was big last year; it will fit her this year. Better to get the 2 years out of it.

Re: BTDT Moms - Predicting DC's size for next summer?
I think you would be safe with 18-24 month or 24mt clothing.
DS was in 18-24 last year and at 27 months he is still in 18-24 months. I do have some 2T stuff but they are big on him no matter what store they come from. he is 29lbs and about 36inches tall.
DD is 12 months old right now and fits into 12-18months. 12 months fitting her best and 18 months is still big on her. So for next year I am going to with 18-24 months. She was 8.15lb at birth and 21inches. Now she is about 22lbs and not sure about height but I am guessing around 30inches.
