BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
DD will be 1 in June. I heard from my stroller strides Mom friends that the summer stuff, like bathing suits and "rash guards" (that's what my surfer husband calls them), sell out quickly. How many bathing suits, rash guards, hats, etc. do you think we need. Typically we go to the beach often and I'm sure she'll have little pool. How soon should I go get them? I know everything is in the stores already!

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
I have a few suits for Ryan that we got on clearance last summer as gifts (in 18 months so thankfully we're going to FL next month or they'd go to waste!)
Anyway, I would think 5-7 suits are more than enough.
ETS: Sorry, I'm not BTDT really since DS didn't do much swimming last summer

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
I never used a rash guard with DD last summer and I probably won't this year either.

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
I usually have about 3 suits for DD, 1-2 hats and 1-2 bottles of "rash stuff". I've never seen this stuff sell out.

Whats a rash guard???
it's that swim shirt that offers UV protection. surfers wear them under their wet suits to prevent a rash.

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
when my kids were little 2 bathing suits was enough. i wadhed them as soon as we got home to get thr chlorine out, so i just needed one extra in case the 1st was still in the washing machine or damp. really you dont need very many suits. rasg guard, i never used with the kids. its hard enough putting on a bathing suitr and swim diaper and sunscreen, one more article of clothing is just too muchj in my opinion. they wear sunscreen anyway.

Same here. I had WAY too many bathing suits for her, and probably will again this year They're just too cute to pass up.
I did get 2 great sun hats for her in BRU that were waterproof, so she wore those outside in her pool...and they tied under the neck, so they were perfect when we went for walks and it was windy, etc...thinking this summer she won't stand for something tied under her neck.
ETA: Since you said you'll be going to the beach, I would try to find a few hats that either snap or tie under the neck, so they'll stay on if it's windy.

It also prevents a rash under their arms when they are little. When the arm rubs against the body it can be very painful.

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
We went swimming everyday last summer. We still swim now, but not as much. He has two swim suits and two rash guards. That way one would always be dry.
By the end of the summer I bought the next size up when they went on sale. I always found them in stores.
ETA: He also had two hats, but he always took them off. I got the pool floaty thing that had a canopy over it.

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
DD is very fair so I've always used the rash guard suits. I've been able to manage with 2 so that they can be washed and/or dried while I still have one in circulation. Target has very inexpensive ones. Lands End made a nice long sleeve one but was way more $$$

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
We have a boat and a pool in the back yard, so DD was in the water or at Fire Island a lot since she was born. We have 2 bathing suits for her, 2-3 hats, 2 cover-ups and 2 kinds of sunscreen (spray & lotion).

Re: BTDT Moms - summer essentials swim
DS was in the pool just about every day that wasn't raining last summer. We had 3-4 suits because he got a few as birthday gifts. He had 2 rashgurads and I only used them when we went to Sesame Place or the beach, never just at home. I love the swimdiaper bathing suits, the ones that have the diaper part attached inside.
I also had spray and lotion sunscreen and a few hats. He wore them OK last year, this year I know its going to be a problem!
