BTDT Moms - Teething
When did your DC start teething? And how long after the signs started did the first tooth actually appear?
DC is only three months, but he's started drooling excessively, chewing on his hands non stop and has a rash on his chin (probably from the drool). Lots of the moms in our prenatal class have been told their babies are teething (all pretty much the same age as Tristan) and I'm thinking T's the same, but I'm wondering how long he'll just show symptoms before the first tooth actually comes out.
Thanks!

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
All mine didn't have any signs. They didn't even drool. But my oldest DD cut 2 teeth right after she turned 3 months and my other 2 babies cut teeth in their 4th month. They all did chew on their hands but that is normal behavior for that age so I didn't consider it teething.

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
My doctor said chewing on hands and drooling are normal at that age, and without feeling teeth coming through he didn't think DS was teething yet, though he was showing those signs.

My DD was teething around that age but didn't cut her first tooth until 11 1/2 months.

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
at t's age - that's normal....the hands in the mouth - EVERYTHING in the mouth. they are discovering their hands and learning 'textures'....
when he bites on your fingers do you feel anything???
our doc didn't say teething for emma until she felt in her mouth and saw 'white spots' behind her gums...
she's been 'teething' for about 1 1/2 months now and it's really starting to HURT when she 'gnaws' on our fingers now. i think the top ones will be sooner than the bottom - based on feel...

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
DS did all of those things. They're normal parts of development and not necessarily related to teething. Since DS's 4 month appointment, we've been told by every doctor in the practice that his bottom gums are swollen. He still doesn't have any teeth at almost 11 months.

Alex started teething around 3 months and her first tooth popped out at 4 months - looks like we're on the same trend with Yael as well

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
Thanks everyone I agree with you that this behavior is developmental - but it is all related to teething as well. Even though their teeth don't appear right away, they're moving around under their gums.

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
T's birthday twin is going through the same thing right now. I leave a bib on him all day because he drools like mad!
On a side (funny) note, he can fit his whole fist in his mouth!

Seriously! I was talking to Wendy and she said she was wondering what she was going to do with the 9 million bibs she got at her shower - now she knows!

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
Both DD's started doing that at 3 months and did it on and off. DD#1 didn't get her 1st tooth until 9.5 months. DD#2 is still doing this on and off and still hasn't gotten any teeth and she is 5 months.

And the best part is half of them are too small already (even on my peanut!!). But she seriously goes through 3-4 bibs just at daycare and probably another two at home before bed!
Our ped tonight was pretty non-committal about teeth when I asked ... he was like "yeah, could be ... you'll find out"

Re: BTDT Moms - Teething
DS started drooling and chewing on everything around 3 months.
He finally got is first tooth at 10 months and the interesting thing was he wasn't drooling too much the week or so before hand. He did chew(but he always does that), the only symptom (and I didn't notice until after the fact) was a decrease in appetite the week before his tooth came in.
