BTDT moms: can you explain how you transitioned to giving millk in the sippy
DD is refusing to drink any milk out of a sippy and now I'm getting nervous that she won't transition. She's 16 mos and I want to get it done. I've tried it with afternoon bottle, morning bottle, different sippy cups. How did you do it and how long did it take? If she refuses it do I just let her go a few days w/o milk? Won't that hurt her? Not sure how tough to be? TIA!

I started with the morning bottle and didn't really give him a choice. he trasitioned pretty well though so I'm probably not the best to ask, I would just not give her a choice for one bottle a day

Re: BTDT moms: can you explain how you transitioned to giving millk in the sippy
Does she drink other things out of the sippy? If so, then I think if you really want to transition her, then don't give her a choice. Maybe let her see you pour the milk into the cup so she knows exactly what is in there and maybe that will entice her to drink it. I don't really think it is a big deal if she goes a day or 2 without milk. If she were sick and not taking it, it wouldn't be an issue, so I don't think this is either. Have you tried a straw instead of a sippy? Maybe that will be "fun" enough that she will be willing to do it. I know it may be tough, Marron just learned how to use a straw at 17 months.

Re: BTDT moms: can you explain how you transitioned to giving millk in the sippy
I started giving the sippy with milk, instead of a bottle, at lunch time. I guess she was around 10 monhts, I wanted her to get used to it. She didn't always drink it. Eventually at meal time, I went to sippy only, and didn't worry myself if the milk was all gone. For bottles in general, by her first birthday, I went cold turkey. She had a little fuss for a few nights because she always had a bottle before bed, but in a few days she was over it.
Just keep giving the sippy, if she doesn't drink it, put it back in the fridge and try again later. Don't worry about not getting a ton of milk if her diet otherwise is good. Good Luck!

Re: BTDT moms: can you explain how you transitioned to giving millk in the sippy
I stopped the morning bottle and gave a sippy w/breakfast instead and he drinks only what he wants (not much). Same w/lunch and dinner, maybe he drinks 8-10oz all day. The Dr. said he would eventually get used to it and he's definitely improving, sometimes he gulps it down but not nearly like he did w/the bottle. It's only been a couple of weeks so I'm trying not to sweat it. The nighttime bottle he drinks like 6oz more so I'm hesitant to get rid of it yet.
