BTDT moms, curious about lamaze...
Did you take classes before giving birth? Did you find it helpful? Was it worth it? And did anyone try the Bradley Method?
Can you share your experiences please?
TIA!

Re: BTDT moms, curious about lamaze...
I did a private lamaze/child birth class. It was interesting and helpful, but I wound up having a c-section so I never really put any of the info to use.
My instructor was great though. She came to the house and it was about 3 hours.

Re: BTDT moms, curious about lamaze...
I found it helpful in that it was very educational with respect to giving birth in general - vaginally or c-section, what to expect at the hospital, the different pain relief available and the pros and cons etc etc.
I found that it really wasn't that on point for me though with respect to my actual labor experience since mine was very different than what I was led to expect via lamaze. I did use the breathing a bit but not entirely and was in too much pain to utilize any of the other tips or even think of them when the time came Also I kept waiting for contractions like the ones described in lamaze which never came (I had all back labor only). And, the time schedule they gave me was totally off for me which probably led to me going to the hospital much later than planned.
I did give birth without an epi though which was what I wanted and I felt the class helped in making this decision and being prepared for what to expect. I would take it again but, with the caveat, that everyone's experience is very personal and different.
Hope this helps and good luck!

If you want to take it to learn what to expect during labor and common procedures at the hospital, its good.
If you want to give birth naturally, Hypnobirthing would be better.

No, I watched a video "Laugh and Learn about Childbirth" as did many other mommies on this board. It was very helpful, though I ended up with a c/s.

I just did this tape - it is taught by someone who taught lamaze at Columbia - it covered the topics the classes taught and I was able to watch it on my own schedule which I needed b.c DH works long hours and I was commuting to NYC for work

IMAGE DH and I watched this together 3x before Aly was born - - - - it was very helpful - it taught us a lot about how to know when your in labor, what to expect, etc...however, I dint put any of the breathing techniques to use - I was in way too much pain to think about how to breathe! I would definately suggest getting it though. great DVD
