BTDT MOMS--Late walkers???

Ethan is 14mos old--has zero interest in walking. He will walk pushing cart/wagon/even his highchair, but that's it.
He stands on his own and has taken up to 4 steps alone.

But if he is standing and I ask him to walk to me, he cries. I think he is scared. He will walk if I hold his hand, but only if I tell him we are going to get something fun or see someone.

thoughts? should I be concerned?

Re: BTDT MOMS--Late walkers???

Im so glad you posted this!! Lara is almost 15months old and the same thing. She walks perfectly fine when holding someones hand or pushing a toy. If i taunt her with something she wants she will walk towards me maybe the longest shes walked unassisted is 5 feet on her own. I am getting nervous because I know she can walk ..she just wontChat Icon

DD didn't walk until 17.5 months.

I was not concerned. I wished she walked earlier because I was pregnant, huge and miserable last summer. She started walking only 6 weeks before DC #2 was born.

Re: BTDT MOMS--Late walkers???

DS didnt start taking steps on his own till 16 months and wasnt full on walking till 17-18 months. He was doing everything else though and I think could have walked if he really wanted to. He's the type of personality who will do something when he is ready. My doctor wasnt concerned...he said if he wasnt walking by 18 months to call EI. I actually called them around 17 months and the week they called to set up evals, he started walking. I wouldnt worry yetChat Icon

My DD was doing the same exact things that you described when she was 14 months old. She just seemed scared to take the steps on her own. She started walking at 15 months and was a full time walker before she was 16 months old.
Try not to worry. Your DC will get there in their own time. And I bet it's just around the corner. Chat Icon

DD started walking a few days after she turned 15 months. She never crawled, just scooted. I was a nervous mess, but she slowly learned. They have until 18 months..my PED wasnt concerned at all.

My DD walked with help at 12 months old and walked on her own at 15 months. I wouldn't worry yet, they don't really consider a baby a late walker until I believe around 18-19 months. Chat Icon

No both my boys were late walkers....one at 15 months and one at 16 months. My doctor was not concerned and they did it when they were ready too. One I think was more scared to do it then he couldn't do it.

Re: BTDT MOMS--Late walkers???

If it is just walking that your DC isn't doing then I wouldn't worry. But if there are other things you are concerned with, I would contact EI. My DS wasn't walking, pulling up, or going from laying down to sitting at 15 months so we contacted EI with our doctor's support and DS started PT shortly after. Now at almost 21 months he is walking and has been for about a month and doing all of the other things we were concerned about. He still have some things to work on but overall, he is doing great.

Re: BTDT MOMS--Late walkers???

Thank you for posting this! DS is just about 14m too and wont walk alone either. He has the same reaction as your DS, whines and would rather crawl. He'll walk with push toy all day though, just wont let go! I think he's nervous too.
