All I can say is THANK YOU Ladies sooooo very much....each and every one of you are awesome and you have made me feel soooo much better....this has definitely been a roller coaster ride so far....some days are really good and some days (like today) are really bad....it's nice to know that I can turn to this board and hear from people who have been in my shoes before and know that everything will be ok....I will keep you all posted...thanks again

Re: BTDT moms of Preemies...could use a pick me up
NICU is the worst rollercoaster ride in the world, and our son was only there for a week. I will tell you that my cousin gave birth at 27 weeks to a 1.5lb baby boy - he is now a happy, healthy toddler and progressing normally on all charts. She had to deal with NICU for almost 4 months, but the end result is well worth it.
And it might help to keep thinking about the fact that the care he is getting is amazing - they will make sure he is perfect before sending him home and you will have the strength to get through this -- and a year from now will look back and think how short a time period it really was.

2 steps forward, 1 step back - I think thats the NICU theme song...
I watched my sister go through it with my niece (micro-preemie born at 27.5 weeks - 1 lb 12oz). First she had to learn had to breathe: on the vent, off the vent, back on vent, cpap, nasal tube, etc. Then she had to learn how to eat, and that was another roller coaster.
She was in the Winthrop NICU for 10 weeks. And now she's a happy & healthy 1 year old.
I know it seems like forever now, but he'll be home with you soon. Hang in there
fyi, I'm participating in the March of Dimes, March for Babies next month. Just mentioning it here in case you're interested. I know a lot of preemie moms get involved - its also a great way to meet others who have gone through the same experience.
You can see my niece 'then & now" on my team page: March for Babies
I don't know if Dr. Hanna is one of your son's doctors, but he was my niece's Dr while she was in the NICU. He just received a $480,000 grant from the March of Dimes Prematurity Research Initiative.

Re: BTDT moms of Preemies...could use a pick me up
DS spent 6 days in the NICU but at the time we did not know whether it would be a lot longer. We had several ups and downs during that time. Although our stay was short compared to many others, I believe that only a NICU parent can really understand. FM me if you want. Let me know if you need help or a break or a shoulder to cry on. Someday you will be like me, looking at those preemie clothes and asking yourself if it is really true that your kid ever really fit into them!!
