BTDT Moms of toddlers...HELP! WWYD?
Gracie has a stuffy nose for over two weeks now. Tonight she started this like wheezing cough that sounded deep & wet. It was not a BAD asthma wheez, a wheez that comes with congestion. She ALWAYS has fevers when sick, this time NO FEVER. I keep putting off going to the ped b/c I took he two weeks ago when it started and they told me it was a cold and/or viral and had to run its course.
So WWYD? Call the ped again only to sit there with sick kids for 45 minutes waiting to be seen? She runs the risk of getting sicker that way? Or wait it out? Plus they changed the guidelines on Triamedic again...you cannot give it toddlers anymore, you have to wait to until age 6. She is not complaining and is eating, drinking, being her "normal" self, BUT she has been taking 3 hr naps on the days I keep her home from day care (normally she naps for 90 minutes) and she is cranky around bed time (she is usually not cranky).
I am confused...do I bring her to the ped and risk her catching something worse? or Wait it out? Normally it is very clear to me when she is really sick, I just don't know if it is allergies or something more serious this time, KWIM?
TIA ladies!

My allergies have been absolutely brutal the last week or two, could it possibly be that?
I totally understand not wanting to expose her to more germs at the peds office. Could you wait in your car and have the ped call your cell when they are ready? My peds office does this a lot - especially when we had a newborn and the waiting room was super crowded.

I could have written what you wrote word for word. Kaila has the same persistent cough, and it NEVER goes away. I've taken her to the ped. numerous times and even switched, I also took her to an ENT doc last month.
The ENT told me that toddlers can get up to 7 colds a year, each lasting 2 - 3 weeks Its just that each one affects each child differently and in our case, she gets a horrible cough every time.
I do have her on Claritin, and it seems to be helping a little bit. I know thats for allergies but she hasnt coughed all week so Im telling myself that its helping My ped. told me to keep her on it, and I found that when I wasnt giving it to her everyday the cough would come back.
Its a BUMMER.. it really is the worst especially when you dont know what to do and you cant give them anything to help them feel better. Hope it works out and your DC feels better soon!!

try taking her into a steamy shower...or steam up your bathroom and stay in there with her for at least 10-15 min. I always do that before I call the ped. and usually it works!

Are you running a humidifier?? My DD had this as well and the only thing that helped was the humidifier. I ran it all night and at naptime.

Opt for the humidifer over the shower - more than likely she needs cool mist. Run it as much as you can today. Turn down your heat (if it's on).
If she wasn't acting normal -other than sleeping longer - I'd say head to the pediatrician.
Hope she's better soon.
