BTDT Moms: Once they can stand up in the crib

How do you get them to nap? Every time I put her in there she stands up and cries hysterically. I keep putting her back down but it doesn't work. Suggestions? Does this just go away once the novelty wears off?

do you still have her swing?

I would put my daugther in it and then I would move her.

probably not the best thing, but it worked.

now she doesn't even sleep in her crib.Chat Icon

Ever since she's learned how to stand, she won't go in anything without screaming and arching her back and stiffening her legs to the point that I can't hardly force her in. The swing, highchair, bouncy seat, you name it. the crib was the last thing she resisted.

I might be the bad mommy but I lay him down with his paci, put the mobile on and walk out. I don't turn around that its. Sometimes he cries sometimes he plays but he can get down and was able to from when he learned how to stand.

My DD is 10 months old now and getting her to nap is a chore. I have the same problem with her going into the crib. She stands there and screams. Today I had to let her cry, she cried for a half hour and then slept for a half hour. I'm hoping the length of her naps will get longer. It is very frustrating. We are also starting to put her to bed about a half hour earlier at night so I'm hoping that will help us out too.

Same here except no paci. She eventually lays down and goes to sleep.

If Ryan is not tired, he will stand up within a couple of seconds of me putting him down. I let him stand, he cries for a little bit, and will lay down eventually. I basically let him CIO and he will lay down and go to bed within 15 minutes. If I kept going in there, he would think its fun and keep standing up probably laughing at me. But each child is different and I am not sure if you do CIO.

Re: BTDT Moms: Once they can stand up in the crib

For some reason when DD learned to sit up on her own she couldn't lay herself down to sleep so I would lay her down and then she would pop back up(naps were a chore for a while)...when she started standing she knew how to get back down so now if she's standing I just let her CIO and she falls asleep pretty quickly...
Your DD will learn fast, I wouldn't keep going in b/c now she may think it's a game...

NIcholas does the same thing and he is almost 10 months. I let him CIO or play for about 15-20 minutes until he realizes its nap time and I am not coming back in to pick him up.

Kaitee just starting doing this a week ago. I lay her down give her a paci and leave the room. I wait 10 minutes (she is usually out by then) if she is still awake I lay her down again and leave the room. The most it has taken is twice.

Re: BTDT Moms: Once they can stand up in the crib

I definitely do not want it to turn into a game, but as of right now she can't sit back down herself (that I've seen anyway) and she screams bloody murder. Would you still leave her up there? I tried this morning. I'm not opposed to CIO, but it went on for 20 minutes. When I came out of the shower she was still standing and screaming. I put her down and tried to keep getting ready and same thing.

Jordana is difficult about this. I try to go in and lay her down, but sometimes she gets back up. Sometimes she falls asleep sitting up and then we lay her down. Yesterday she was hunched over so much she was almost in yoga's "Child Pose".

Re: BTDT Moms: Once they can stand up in the crib

When Brendan first learned to stand in the crib getting him to sleep was so hard. If I would lay him back down he would just pop right back up. What I had to do was just leave him there crying until he was literally so exhausted that he would finally allow me to put him down and then I would rub his back and he would fall asleep almost instantly. At this point he wanted to go to sleep so badly, but just couldn't get down. During the day I also woud try to show him how to sit back down. After about a week and a half he figured out to get himself down and we haven't had a problem since.
