BTDT Moms or Moms of DC who just started nursey/preK...
Did your DC behavior change at all after they started school? Do you notice them to be more attached to you, clingy, wake up at night afraid that you are going to leave them? Im just wondering what your experiences have been soon after placing your children in school. I know its an adjustment - im thinking of putting Julia in nursery next year she will be 3 - and wondering how soon your child adjusted and wondering if they became more independent or remained clingy to you.
ALSO - did anyones child not adjust well to you leaving them and therefor you took them out of the program? Just wondering - very nervous mommy here - I think Julia would benefit from nursery school but i dont want her to get tramatized when I leave her. She is very attached to me - im a SAHM and she is sometimes attached to my hip even in the house!lol

Re: BTDT Moms or Moms of DC who just started nursey/preK...
I'm a SAHM and Jared is constantly attached to me. I prepped him weeks before school started. Potty training was complete and he knew that he was going to be making friends/learning/having fun at school.
The first day was great, he walked right in and had a wonderful day.
The second, third and fourth day...he cried. He made excuses for not wanting to go and I felt bad for leaving him. But after those 2 weeks went by he was so much better. He started to want to go to school and he knew that I was coming back to pick him up.
I have to say that he is clingy but it might not be from school. I'm expecting baby #2 soon and that is what might be changing his behavior. He still sleeps normally, so that isn't a change for us either.
It is a transition. I would say it takes about 2-3 weeks to get them used to school. I'm sure your daughter will love it once she gets used to it. You never know, she might surprise you and not cry at all. Sometimes it's harder on the mom's than on the kids...

Re: BTDT Moms or Moms of DC who just started nursey/preK...
Ryan just started this past week.
He is 2 and a half and started earlier than I thought he would, but he is in a EI class as he has a speech delay. It's the same exact thing as a regular pre-school, except he gets a speech class.
So far, when I leave him, he is hysterical. The teachers have to hold him back when I leave. I hate it, but I know he will get used to it and have to give it time! I think this is also because he is still young, and he has NEVER been in any day care or anything like this before. (My mom watches him during the day while I work).
No other changes at home. He still sleeps at night, all night.

Re: BTDT Moms or Moms of DC who just started nursey/preK...
I kinda feel like the school schedule has brought out the "brattiness" in my DD, and I've discussed it with other moms from our school and they have seen it also.
The thing is, I know she is very polite, shares, and gets along great with everyone while she is at school because I stay out in the hallway and watch for a few minutes when drop her off. She waits paitiently to greet her teacher, invites friends to come and play, and tells me how she helps different kids. I see her hugging her friends and holding hands with them during dismissal.
But at home with me she is more demanding, more snappy. I think it is because the schedule has changed so much. She always took a GOOD long nap in the afternoon and we don't have as much time for that anymore. I have to wake her up when it is time to get daddy from work, and she's literally a BEAST when I have to do that.
Overall I know she will adjust, and I am glad she is getting the school experience. We just have to work on her manners at home with us!

Re: BTDT Moms or Moms of DC who just started nursey/preK...
Well, Katherine started "real" nursery school this month. She now goes 3 half days. She had about zero transition issues. I did send her 2 hours a week last year to the same school, so that might be part of it. Last year, she cried maybe the first two times BUT...she had only just turned 2, and it was only 1x a week so the gap between classes was long.
I was worried about her too because she is VERY shy. It takes her quite a while to warm up to adults and to other kids. However, she's done so well and really looks forward to going. I asked her teacher last week how she was doing since she's so shy. She said yes, she's quiet, but definitely getting into it and laughing and playing. I am happy!

YES! I chalked it up to her turning 3 this month though...
