BTDT Moms, please help w/ water breaking etc.

I went to the doctors yesterdays, she told me that I was fully effaced, and 1 cm dilated. She doesn't think I'll make it to Jan. 6th, because I was having alot of contractions, but they dont hurt yet

Today I woke up and was a little wet down there ((sorry TMI)) .. but I'm not sure if my water broke, is it possible to break just a bit? Or will it really be a gush like they say?

I think it can break just a little bit. Try drying off, then lying down--if you feel wet again, call the dr.

Good Luck!!

from what my mom told me when she gave birth to me - she had NO idea her water broke - because my head was blocking the opening and water was only trickling out...

My SIL had taken a birthing class that same day that my mom shared that news and they said that it's actually common for that to happen...

Re: BTDT Moms, please help w/ water breaking etc.

From what I understand, it can be either a slow leak or a gush...

As another poster said, try lying down as if you are standing, the baby will plug up the hole so the water won't leak out.

Also, amniotic fluid is odorless-- so that's another tip.

My friend recently just gave birth, she had no idea her water had broken and turns out it had broken 2 days prior. No gush at all she just though it was the normal discharge. Doesnt hurt to call and just make sure.

When I gave birth, my water broke a little bit. I woke up & felt wet. Try to lay down for a bit & see if when you get up you are wet again. I'd call the dr. though. Good luck!

When my water broke it was just a trickle and the only reason I knew was because I already started having contractions so I was up and walking when I felt a trickle run down my leg.

I never had a gush when my water broke with my son.

Try emptying your bladder & see if you are still getting wet.

It can break a little and just be a trickle. When my water broke it was a full on gush and I kept gushing water from the second it happened until I was on the table for my C-section. I could NOT believe how much water was coming out!!!! Chat Icon Everyone is different though, I expected a trickle but I flooded!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Yes, it is completely possible to have a slow leak. It happened to me. What I did to be sure was I went to the bathroom and used toilet paper to line a vinyl chair. I sat on the chair and waited a minute and there was wetness on the tp that was not pee. I called the dr. and took a shower because I knew I had to have a c/s. DS was breech. I then went to the hospital and had an emergency c/s instead of the planned c/s that was scheduled for two days later.

your water can definitely leak without fully breaking. if you're worried i would call your OB... better safe than sorry.

Re: BTDT Moms, please help w/ water breaking etc.

the DVD we watched said it will feel like a gush of water. If in doubt, I would call your doctor. They may want to see you any way just in case.

my Dr said it wont just break a little bit - you will def leak and know for sure your water broke.

For me - it was a gush, then I leaked until I got to the hospital
