BTDT Moms-Talk to me about a VBAC
DS 1 was born via C-section b/c he was breech so I technically don't need to have a c-section this time around. My OB said to see how this pregnancy progresses before I have my heart set on anything but she will do whatever I decide. I just want have as much info about a VBAC as I can. Give me the good, the bad and the ugly! TIA

Re: BTDT Moms-Talk to me about a VBAC
VBAC is generally safe, and in everything I've read, it's got less risks than another c-section. It's important to choose a truly supportive practitioner (and hospital, IMO). How many VBACs has your doctor attended? Do VBAC patients have any special "rules?" (Under what conditions will they "let" you attempt VBAC? How long will they "let" you labor? Will you be permitted to move around or will you need to be constantly monitored in bed?)
Check out the NY Dept of Health stats to get an idea of the VBAC rate in different hospitals. Some are far more friendly to the idea than others.
Read "Pushed" by Jennifer Block. It's a great book with a ton of information. The author is a researcher and backs up all her points with scientific studies. It's fascinating.
Visit ICAN (International Cesarian Awareness Network). They have tons of information and support.

Re: BTDT Moms-Talk to me about a VBAC
I had a vbac with #2. She was born exactly 2 years after I had my son by c/s because he was breech.
#1 was that I had a supportive OB. Never discouraged me, just told me the facts. I had to go into labor on my own (they will not induce); I had to go into labor before 41 weeks; and they watched the baby's size closely, my OB wanted the baby to be 8 lbs or less (my first was 9 lbs 7 oz, but that was not the reason for a c/s).
The vbac recovery was amazingly different. So happy I got the chance to go for it with #2 and be successful. I ended up with complications when having baby #3 and I had to have an unplanned emergency c/s (we had be planning another v-birth all along). It was tough!
