BTDT Moms who have traveled with infants

Any recommendations? We're going away in November for 6 days. How do I handle bottles, formula, etc. Did you pack all the bottles you own, bring RTF formula, powder? I am clueless on this. Peyton will be almost 9 months old. I think we're going to need a suitcase just for her food. TIA.

well i traveled before the new rules! but it depends on where you are going. if it's somewhere in the u.s. i would just bring what i needed to get there and then shop once i was there!

Re: BTDT Moms who have traveled with infants

when we traveled with Sydney we went to Massachusetts and the Poconos. At home I use powder but I used the ready to feed while away - make sure wherever you stay has a fridge and a microwave. I also brought lots of baby food - at least 3 per day plus extras just in case. I brought a package of diapers and wipes and figured if I ran out I woudl buy more.
Have a good trip.

I went to Florida when DD was 3 months old. I brought formula (and only made enough bottles to get thru the flight and car rides) - and only brought a few diapers. We picked up a package at the supermarket.

I brought a stroller and her carseat - a few toys and that was it.

We brought bottles and then a bottle dryer that you can put together and take apart at BRU. Also brought a bottle brush and a travel size container with dishwashing soap (I have never sterilized bottles just washed so that wasn't an issue).
We used powder. Brought one can and bought more when we got there along with a case of bottled water.
Also we brought a few jars of baby food and diapers and again bought a bigger supply when we got there.
We were fortunate to be able to get to a store so we didn't have to pack everything. If that's a possibility I would do it that way, it's much easier.

I went to California last weekend, so here was my experience.

You can carry liquids for babies, better if they are already in a bottle. I breastfeed, so I didn't need any bottles Chat Icon

As per the suggestions of the girls on this board, I did not pre-board the plane. Jordana was just fine in her stroller. I packed a bunch of toys and a few books. I was even allowed to take on my small hand sanitizer and her Lil Noses drops. They told me liquids under 4 oz are OK (I even took on a travel size of contact solution).

I fed her as we took off and I tried to feed her as we went down, but she wouldn't let me. I kept giving her a pacifier on the descent because i didn't want her ears to hurt.

We flew to California first thing in the morning. We left the house at 4:45 :am Chat Icon Chat Icon But Jordana did really well on the flight. She slept for 2 hours on the plane and just played for the rest.

On the flight back we took the red eye and Jordana slept the whole time. I kept her awake in the airport and she was miserable and crying- but as soon as we got on hte plane, she fell asleep.

We're going to Turks & Caicos so I'm not even sure if they sell the same Formula I use.

Re: BTDT Moms who have traveled with infants

we went away when Bryan was 11 months and it was great- my advice on the formula would be to bring powder its easier to transport. We brought rtf because we got the bottles free( covered by our insurance) and we didnt want to buy formula but it was such a pita and very heavy bringing the bottles and some of the formula went bad cause we didnt have a fridge for a period of time.

Re: BTDT Moms who have traveled with infants

I have taken Noah on long haul flights twice and I have found the both to be no problem. I have a bulkhead seat and this flight, because he is so active, I plopped him on the floor once we were in the air and he crawled around and ripped magazines apart and screamed for pure joy and just enjoyed life (as he normally does) I brought formula with me, but looking back, I should have just brought it when I got here.

I had to taste all the baby food and formula at the gate and they took my yogurt off of me so poor Noah had no sweets on the plane. The flight was almost 8 hours and he was an absolute dream. I checked my stroller and car seat at the gate and picked it up at the baggage check, I had to carry him and my bag and my car seat through customs...all in all it was no problem!

Re: BTDT Moms who have traveled with infants

We just got back from FL and Ellie is 3 mos. I took some bottles of formula and BM and had no problem. We did pre-board b/c she's so young and it worked out great both times. We took the front row and it worked out great on the way. On the way back I could only get the second row but was very happy to be in front b/c I could get off early with her. I nursed her/ fed her on the way up and down and she was an angel. not a peep. HTH. have a good trip

ETA we used our bjorn to carry her around the airport b/c we weren't traveling with our stroller and that went well also.
