BTDT moms who were induced...
Was your Cervix short for or was it long?
Im soo confused. My doctor told me last night my cervix is too long for induction, im already past due.
My sis mentioned last night that she thought the cervadyle (sp?) for induction was to shorten the cervix? I have no idea b/c didnt do induction last pregnancy, never asked my OB b/c was hoping baby would come early since this is second pregnancy.
Any info someone can share will be a great help. Thanks!!

Re: BTDT moms who were induced...
What you're describing is effacement. If you're long, you're not ready for labor. That's what happened to me which was why my doctor performed a c-section. The induction didn't work at all. It was later found out that the baby couldn't have come out naturally because his umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck not once but twice.
Perhaps you can ask the doctor to do a sono to see if anything's preventing shortening of the cervix?
Here's more info:
"Effacement Prior to pregnancy and in the first and second trimester, as well as much of the third trimester, your cervix is long and thick. As labor nears it begins to shorten and thin out. This action is referred to as effacement. As your cervix begins to efface, the plug keeping the entrance to the uterus sealed is released. This is called your mucus plug and it may contain some blood.
Effacement is generally measured in percentages by doctors and midwives. When you have an exam your provider will tell you that it is anywhere from 0% to 100% which means not effaced at all to completely effaced and thin. When it is completely effaced it becomes a part of the uterine wall, allowing the baby to pass through."

He gave me an NST and sono last night.. and scared me to death on both. NST no real movement had me eat candy.. finally some but not much movement.. Then had sono, saw hearbeat but no movement. Poked me and pushed me no movment. Then doctor said check for umbilical cord around neck and for breathing.. longest sono of my life!! Finally saw umbilical was okay, and some breathing.. baby was sleeping. No real reason for long cervix.. im guessing wrong due date.

I was induced but I have no idea about the length of my cervix. My induction went well. I was scared I would end up with a c section, but didn't so that was good.

Same here both times.
With dd I needed pitocin after the cervidil to get contractions started. With ds I went into hard labor with just the cervidil. I had vaginal deliveries both times.
good luck!

Re: BTDT moms who were induced...
When I was induced, my cervix was 90% effaced and 3 cm dilated, so my OB said I was a good candidate for induction because I was progressing. otherwise, I would've had to be given cervadil to make my cervix shorten (efface) and dilate before the pitocin, which starts the contractions. There's a higher chance of a successful induction if you have some natural progression, otherwise the induction might not work and you'll have to have a c-section.
I ended up with a c-section even though the induction was successful because DS had the cord around his neck and was sunny-side up.
Hopefully you'll start to progress soon
