BTDT of 2 with a c-section

I am probably going to have a scheduled c-section with my second. My DS will be 28 months at the time. I was wondering when you were in the hospital, when did your first come to visit you. I am thinking that it would be best to wait til the second day since after having a c-section I will not be able to get out of bed or hold my DS. I just feel so bad to be away from him. I have never been away from him before.

Any thoughts from BTDT.

Thanks!

All three of mine are 28 - 30 months apart. My dh usually brought them for about 1/2 or so around 4ish and then took them out to mcdonald's as a special treat. It wasn't bad, they were more interested in the new baby. I had my dh hold the baby and they got to touch their toes, etc. For me, my dh either had them sit at the edge of my bed and lifted them up to kiss me. Both my girls seemed to understand that they had to be careful, but I think for them it was important for them to see me each day even if it was just for a little bit.

I had Chat Icon #2 at 5:30pm. It's all a haze now, but I believe Chat Icon #1 (who was 20 mos. at the time) came that night--but did not see me. She came with my ILs to see the new baby behind the glass. I didn't get into my room until 9pm-ish anyhow, so it probably wouldn't have been possible to have visitors.

I stayed only 3 nights the 2nd time and she came to visit on each of the 2 remaining full days. It was so funny--it's like she didn't even care! She just enjoyed trying to run around the halls!! I was totally so much more emotional than she was. She came and left with not one problem!

DW had a morning C, so I brought DS the following day, and the day after. He's 3 years older than DD, so he just stood next to DW's bed, and stared at the baby, and out the window (we were on the 9th floor at Stony Brook, so there's a great view... Chat Icon )

Re: BTDT of 2 with a c-section

I had c-sections with both kids. With my 2nd he was 28 months as well. I was never away from him and I already felt guilty about not being able to spend as much time with him since the baby was coming so my DH brought him to the hospital that night after he picked him up from daycare. I had the c-section early in the morning. We just explained to him that mommy had a boo boo and couldn't pick him up. He understood for the most part. He was soooooo excited about his new baby brother! Chat Icon I also would have missed him sooo much if I didn't see him everyday. Chat Icon

All 3 of mine were sections. When DS#2 was born, DS#1 was 20 months old, and he came to see me that day. When #3 was born, #2 was 27 months old, and DH brought both boys to see me that same day.

Re: BTDT of 2 with a c-section

My 2nd was a c, my oldest was 14 months. It was dh and i's first time away from her for so long. We didn't bring her to the hospital, it would have been too hard, i wouldn't have been able to hold her and she wouldn't have wanted to leave since dh stayed with me the whole time.
We saw it has special bonding time with our 2nd, but we missed her like crazy! I had 3 picture frames of her with me so everywhere i looked she was there.
