BTDT quest-How long until BFP?

How long did it take for you to get your BFP?

I know this question is different for everyone. I can't guarantee that the 1st month we officially try we'll get a BFP; or the 2nd; 3rd so forth.

Here's a little background on me:

DH & I have been talking about starting a family for the last 3 months. Last month he actually seriously expressed his desire to have a baby (he's 35) but i kept saying i didn't want to spend our already planned anniversary trip to Spain pregnant (trip is in 5 months so IF i got pregnant soon i'd be between 3-5 months). However if we run into problems TTC i'd rather start sooner than later. This way i can get BFP (hopefully) March/April instead of next September or October

I got my BFP the 2nd cycle after really TTC with OPK's. But like you said, everyone is different. You never know how long it can take. Personally, I wouldn't put off TTC for a vacation but that's JMO. Best of luck!

I got mine the first month we stopped using any sort of birth control. We weren't really actively ttc - more of a "let's see what happens" type of situation.

But many people told me to start when we were thinking about it because you never know how long it'll take and you'd rather not regret starting earlier if things are more difficult than you hoped.

I totally understand your feeling about your vacation though - We're going on a cruise in December and now I can't drink!!! But totally worth it :)

we did a dry run and realized I was ovulating later than I thought I was.. so we used OPK's.. and it helped

We got a BFP after 13 months. The first few months we just winged it then I started using the CBEFM. DH had a SA done on 9/19 and we got our BFP on 9/21!!! So techinically I was pregnant when he took the test!!

I got mine the very first month. In fact, I really believe it happened the very first time out of 3 possible bds. For other girls it can take months/ years. So you never really know. If I were you, I'd start trying right away. If you did get preg quick, at least you'd be in 2nd tri for your planned trip AkA babymoon at that point

If this is something you both want, don't wait! You never know how long your journey will be!

It took us about 8 months, 3 months on CBEFM

Tried for 13 months. Did the o sticks for a month or two but never got a reading. Gave up on those. Temp thing for a month. That took way too much effort. Had an HSG 6 months in. Finally Gave it all up and just BD'd until it took.

It took us almost exactly one year!

It took us 4 cycles to get our BFP. We are both 30. The first cycle we just winged it and nothing. I started using OPKs the next three cycles - it helped. This last cycle that we got the BFP the only thing I changed was that we started using Preseed. I'm convinced it worked!!

Took me 2 years.

You will never know. I never thought it would take me this long. I have cycles that are crazy regular and never had any major issues. ALso was not in the pill for about 3 years prior to even thinking about TTC.

Just be prepared that it might happen right away or it might take a lot longer.

Our first month using OPK's. We were testing to see what my ovulation date really was vs what I thought it was and got our BFP. We were truly very lucky. for you

It happened the third month of "trying', the first month however I didnt time anything, just "pulled the goalie", the second month I actually AVOIDED BD' ing during my fertile time because the following month we were going away and I wanted to 'enjoy it' i.e. take advantage of the all inclusive deal on vacay, Turned out I got knocked up on vacation that third month- using the old fashioned 12, 14, 16 day of the cycle (and then some-- did i mention all inclusive? lol).

The vacation was not timed/planned that way it was a very last minute trip, we decided to take after we had started ttc. I was 33, almost 34 when we decided to start trying and really wanted to have my first child before I turned 35, so it turned out that I was ok waiting or skipping 1 month of ttc but I wouldnt have been ok with waiting longer than that if for example the trip was a few months out. That was just me though.

Its a personal decision- and a question of priorities (no judgment intended at all) because you just NEVER know how long it can take

i went of bcp in june 2010. got pregnant in november. mc in dec. got pregnant again in june 2011.

Thanks everyone!! Just got off the phone with DH. He Jokingly told me i need to go to AA for the fact that I'm actually considering holding off starting a family to be able to drink while in Europe.

I think we're actually at the point where the desire to start a family out weights the reasons i thought i had to wait!! I think my priorities are really shifting and really want to start trying sooner than later. I JUST went off BC; so who knows what will happen. IF we're lucky enough to get pregnant right away; then I'm sure we'd still enjoy our time in Europe. And if not; then I'll use Europe as our cut off to really start actively trying (i.e. if we're not pregnant by the time we get back then start OPK etc).

I'm actually more excited about this next chapter of our lives; and like a pp said-Europe might just end up being our babymoon!

18 months

8 months on our own with perfect cycles, perfect ovulation- nothing

Tried a few IUIs + clomid- no luck.

After a full work up i was diagnosed with endo- and after that I did IVF.

IVF #1 worked.

For us the 1st month we waited to long, so it ended up taking us 4 months. I temped and used CBEFM. I just turned 37 and DH is 32. This is my 2nd, DS is 16

18 months and IVF
IMO dont plan your life around whether or not you will be pregnant, just go with the flow!!

I was in same situation. Had a big vacation to Europe planned but we decided to start trying a few months before because we weren't sure how long it would take. It officially took us 10 months, but only one using CBEFM.

It took us 18 months and 100 mg of clomid and IUI. Totally worth the wait because we are getting TWO!

I got the "ok" from my docs and was going to try in June but dh surprised me with in April so we went with it. I did opks and within 12hours from my smiley. I had one dose of cough syrup and went nuts during 2ww.
