BTDT..anyone have trouble being signed out of work a month before their due date?

I'm planning on being a trooper....but my doc who signed me out a month early last time has left the practice.

I hope I don't have trouble this time. I just need to know in the back of my head that if I need it, I can use it.

anyone ever have an issue?

My company puts us on STD and all we need is note from our doctor. Some doctors are fine saying no more work..others are not comfortable listing any type of reason. In those cases all the employee needs is a note where the doctor states that so-and-so is a patient under their care being treated for pregnancy and is requesting to start their leave effective xx/xx/xx.

I had no issues. just tell your doctor that you cannot do it anymore. Personnel does not need a specific reason on the note. Just a note stating what your last day of work is. I was due 2/4, went out 1/7.

I actually BEGGED and was told no by my doc. I took off 2 weeks before my due date on my own w/o a doctor's note but it was standard practice to do that.

I guess I could do that, but I wouldn't want to lose all my vacation before the baby is born. Plus FMLA would start them, right? And I wouldn't get disability until the baby is born.

I begged too and was told no. I was soooo incredibly swollen, and my dr. said to be a trooper. I told my boss I couldn't do it and they allowed me to work from home (which they did away with, so they'd never do that again).

I think you're considered disabled a month before the baby is due, so you could use sick time instead of vacation (for me it's 2 different types of leave). It depends on your employer whether that would count towards FMLA--at my job if the doctor said it was necessary, I could still take the same FMLA after the baby was born.

I didn't have a problem. My doctor took one look at my swollen ankles, heard about my hour commute back and forth to work, and gave me a note!
And I have unlimited sick time at work, so I wasn't worried about losing any time.

It does count towards your fmla. You get a max of 12 weeks per calendar year.
