bug question - gross, help!

ok this is gross....but...

my sister in law called me a few weeks ago to say after she stayed at my house one weekend that she went home and had bug bites. She accused me and Tom of there being fleas in our house from Casey and our 2 cats. Meanwhile, none of us are scratching Chat Icon

This is after she comes into the house that weekend and shows me the bites...BEFORE she stayed at my house!

Long story short, she found BED BUGS in her apartment. So it wasn't fleas at all. She had her apt fumigated but it didnt work. So there are still bed bugs there Chat Icon (where do they even come from!!!)

So, this weekend she asked to sleep at our house and Tom said yes. I said NO and got mad that he didnt check with me. I do NOT want bugs in my perfectly clean house!!

Can these bugs be transmitted to my house!!!???

Re: bug question - gross, help!

Do you have a close enough relationship to her to ask her when she comes in to shower and maybe wash her clothes in hot hot water in your wahing machine/drier?
That will reduce the chance of any bed bugs

They just had a big story on one of the news shows (like help me Howard or something) how a LI family stayed in a hotel and brought the bugs home with them in their luggage and they spread all over their house.. I would search the net there are ways to prevent this from happening.... Good Luck....

I think you kind of have to put your foot down on this ... either she doesn't stay or she washes herself and everything she brings into your house in hot hot hot water.

Yes they can- I think she needs to get rid of any carpet in her house

I heard that bed bugs come from travelers from overseas- some people can get them @ hotels. Has anyone stayed @ her house from overseas?
I think from old mattesses?
Don't know that much about them-

I think she is fine, but there may be some nesting in her suitcase. I would let her stay since you didn't get bed bugs the last time she stayed with you but ask her to bring freshly washed clothes in a shopping bag or new tote styly bag. I think that's a reasonable request given the circumstances and if she disagrees, then I would tell her that she'll have to find accomodations elsewhere.

Re: bug question - gross, help!

there is an article in real simple magazine and this is what they said, bedbugs are flat, pencil eraser size parasites that live on blood, when they bite, they inject saliva into the skin, forming an itchy, white pinhead size welt. You may notice a line of two or three welts and rust colored stains on your sheets. But ( except in apartment buidlings where they can migrate) bedbugs just dont appear- they have to be imported. Before you cart them in on secondhand furniture or in luggage and on clothing after a trip, search thoroughly for any brown, oval blood- suckers that might be hitching a ride.

omg how gross!!!!! too bad it didnt say how to get rid of them!
