Building collapse in Manhattan!
Scary!!

A major building collapse has rocked the East Village Thursday afternoon. The FDNY and other responders are at the smoky scene on 2nd Avenue near St. Marks Place.
At least two buildings are on fire.
Photos posted to Twitter show high flames and lots of black smoke.
The Post reports that several people have been hurt.

We just got an email that people are reporting smelling smoke in our building, but there is no fire here, it's the smoke from those fires being sucked in our vents.

I'm in Midtown and the smoke smell is VERY strong. DH was 3 blocks away and is still stuck in traffic down there. The building is still burning.

The explosion was from the kitchen of the building next door... they were working on the gas lines and there was a leak. But then they both caught fire. Hopefully it gave people a little more time to get out.

Same happened in my building on Madison and 42.
Our building too, 6th Ave and 51st. They made an announcement that they were closing the vents to the building because it was getting in.
I hope nobody was seriously injured

I'm on 40th & Madison and the windows in our building open. We had to close everything it was so strong.

They evacuated out building due to smoke smell. I just missed it since I leave early to get my DS.
We are in the Met Life building.

The smell of smoke was very strong in the hallway if my bldg when I went to leave. all the way at 1 Penn. No open windows. Crazy.

You know what aggravates me? I just saw some footage on the news from cell phone videos right after it happened. The cops are yelling at the bystanders to get back, to move back and everyone is standing there filming it with their cell phones.
Finally the cop had to come over and yell in people's faces to GET ON THE SIDEWALK. He kept saying, SIDEWALK, SIDEWALK!
They are standing in the street, blocking emergency vehicles from getting by, so they can film this shitt on their phones.
What is the fascination? Do you think you are going to get rich off your sh!tty cell phone video?
The cops, who should have been helping, had to waste time yelling at these jerk offs to get back, get on the sidewalk, etc.
Not to mention if a building has just exploded, I don't think I'd be sticking around to film it. What if there was a gas main leak? Who knows what else could blow up next?
You are putting yourself in harm's way to gawk and take video??
People are really morons and it infuriates me!

I said the exact same thing last night...people wasting the cops time having to monitor their dumb behavior in the middle of a huge issue.
