Bulletin board help.... PLEASE!!!
We have our boards due the day we get back from the Thanksgiving break
I haven't gotten started on mine, AT ALL!!! I need some ideas.....
I have always done a language arts related bulletin board because I just find they're easiest... Right now in ELA, we are doing an author study unit. I was thinking I can do something related to that.............
Here are the ideas I have so far: (FYI- It's for middle school special ed)
1. The students can write letters to a character in the story pretending they are another character in the story
2. I can have half the class write letters to a specific character in the story and half the class be that character and write response letters I like this idea, but I don't think there's enough time to implement it.... There's really just the 3 days this week and Monday for finishing touches....
3. (this is the idea I'm leaning towards) I can have them write a comparison essay, comparing the author they are reading now to a different author...... (comparing author's craft, etc)
I AM OPEN TO ANY OTHER IDEAS!!! I would also appreciate any ideas that expand on ones I already have, including how I will decorate the board! I honestly have NO idea what I want to do, this is BAD

Re: Bulletin board help.... PLEASE!!!
What about compare and contrast essays on 2 characters or a character to themselves?

Re: Bulletin board help.... PLEASE!!!
We just finished a book and I let my kids (Middle school special ed) choose one of the following:
1- write a letter to a character in the book giving them advice
2- imagine you are a magazine interviewing a character in the book. write 5 questions and 5 answers
3- write a journal entry from that character's POV
If you want some art on your bulletin board, you can also have them design their own cover for the book.

Re: Bulletin board help.... PLEASE!!!
When I did an author study I had the kids write a story in the style of the particular author.
I freakin HATE bulletin boards. Are you a city teacher? In math, we use Everyday Math and I have the kids make tesselations for November. Science BB has been up since SEPT and I am not going to be changing it anytime soon. For SS I'm having my kids make their own island (they've been learning map and map keys) They'll design it in any shape they wish (I use a hand as an example) and then put typical features of a map on their island (lake, mountains, cities, etc.). They LOVE doing this project and it's an easy BB.

I am a NYC teacher and that island bb sounds great! Unfortunately I don't teach social studies, so I would not be able to connect it to my curriculum. VERY creative though! That sounds fun!

THANK YOU! I think I am going to use either 1 or 3 ...... Now I need a name for the board!! Thanks again!

That's a good idea, but comparing and contrasting is something I'd like to devote more time to since my kids struggle with it. I need something I can do quickly. (meaning, they write, I edit, they rewrite... bam!)
However...... I might do an assignment like that NOT for the bulletin board! Thanks!
