Re: burping...any good tips out there?
My little one burps really easily but when he was in the NICU I would watch the nurses burp other babies and they held them in their laps, leaned them over a little and supported the babies chin with one hand and burped them with the other. It seemed to work wellm and fairly quickly. Hope this helps

Re: burping...any good tips out there?
Nothing I would do was working for DD. I was always comfortable burping babies on my shoulder and very successful at it. But DD just doesn't respond.
Now I burp her in the sitting position and I get burps 97% of the time.

For me it was how hard I hit her. I was scared to hit her back too hard and never got burps. Now I am a bit more firm and she burps. Also we use the sitting position.

Re: burping...any good tips out there?
DS would get horrible gas pains if he was burped one second too late He was the best on the shoulder. After a couple of minutes and when all else failed, I found walking up and down the stairs... yes, sometimes it took several trips, worked. I made sure I bounced a lot.
Another trick, but my old knees couldn't handle it, is to hold them on your shoulder and do deep knee bends. Nrthshrgrl taught me that.
DD was the best in the sitting position.

yup, I agree with moving your baby around. DD always burped better when we tipped her back a little.

Re: burping...any good tips out there?
I had the same problems when my DS was a newborn.. The best way for us now is holding him upright on my chest with his head on my shoulder... It was hard and scary for me to do with his wobbily head as a newborn but now it is much much easier...

Re: burping...any good tips out there?
thank you...i got a few good burps today, but right now i'm having trouble. Grandpa is inside with him now trying to burp him-he seems to be pretty good at it! I think i'm just too scared of hitting him hard...

I used to do deep rubs and then tough pats and that always got real good belches out of the girls.
